On my current playthrough that's kinda how I dealt with Ogres, about lvl 4/5 party (4 man), chokepoint, Charm a druid at a time in the back so the ogres that are pathblocked start whacking and spend spells on him :D Would a dual wielding marking paladin be a thing for this party setup and overlook the Outworn buckler though? I can overlook the shame or glory+clad, but I think it'll hurt more than save in this case where there's no priest... Thoughts?

So the marking will stay on that one target as long as I dont.... move or change target? That if I switch weapon after using pliambo. Interesting. Thinking of taking paladin Ploi'ish like build, charms really do a number on enemy squads, specialy on low resolve bulky kith. Also, the pala will be basicaly the only emergency heal/liberation/rez source (per encounter) so I think I'll be using him anyway for supporting/marking/buffing (scroll hogger). If I understood correctly, if I mark someone with any marking weapon (target someone atack) and start casting a scroll, the mark stays independently if I even atacked the target right? (for melee weapons I'd think I need to be at melee range of the target, but other than that it'll work like this) EDIT: Does marking stack? Figuring not, but might as well ask :D

Erm... Some time has passed since I read the build, was thinking bittercuts only cuz infestation of maggots would do the same as Tidefall passive, but being passive is always best That also means that riptide will be the recipient of Tall grass due to weapon acc talent. I am now noticing that the weaponizing is really satisfactory, I can get Superb enchantments on everything (Bittercut and Tidefall), in case paladin goes wepnshield. How does marking work with Pliambo per casitas? Or in general actualy? Just shoot and forget pliambo for perma marking if it hits the target? As my understanding goes its only a click on any target for marking to work, but one target at once...

One thing I've learned out of playing several runs of 4 man squads in PotD is that not every fight is for you. Actualy, most of the fights early on just aren't for you. You lack numbers and options to deal with open map fights, although when you can create chokepoints it can go "ok". Just skip stuff that you can't handle just yet, come back later. There's fights that you might wana try out the power of your party (with the 2 friggin lumbering hulks for example, can't remember their name, I generaly get my ass handed back to me), but there's really no need to go there at the time you find them. It's all about timing, it keeps the thing interesting and most fights you can choose at what time in the game you take them, wether you're looking for a challenge or can't be arsed to handle such a tough fight (1 lvl difference is a huge deal)

Making a paladin that doesn't use a shield makes me shiver xD And by the time I'm at defiance bay, I won't have much gold to spend, so... I will see. Oh, btw, killing that little kid without any reputation down after giving him the dagger (march steel dagger) is really satisfying MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAH SO! Let's start weaponizing these dudes! Riptide with double Bittercut Lady of pain with Hours of Rumbledore Darcozzi with Spetum and later BotEP Monk doing some fisting Chanter doin some brainstorming And.... Cipher with Cladhalìath with stunning+vicious enchantment, 1 handed style. Or.... Just a ruffian weapon adept and make use of stilletos/sabres and pistols/blunderbusses as island amu with quickswitch and extra weapon slot. Won't I be a bit starved of talents if I go this route? On a final note, which of these chars should be MC? Riptide? Lady of pain? How bout that crazy bucket of mcnuggets?

I actualy wouldn't chant Sure Handed tbf, since, as Elric pointed out ^, Chanter isnt exactly WOWSTATSDAMAGEWOW material, so I would just spam lvl 1/2 chants, namely Blessed Was Wengridh, Quickest of His Tribe and At the Sight of their Comrades, their Hearts Grew Bold and then the casual One Dozen Stood Against the Power of the Saint, and lvl 7 and over (when monk gets long pain) can I get Sure Handed Ila. BUT, I don't quite remember at what lvls chanters get chants, so if I actualy end up getting a lvl 2 phrase at lvl 7, I'm goin for it, even though his damage won't be imense, he'll definately help the witch doctor (after he gets the wounds). EDIT: As I was reading input on the Melee Cipher post, should I run a Darcozzi paladin instead to buff acc of the cipher to hit paralize efficiently?
-
Well, no, I think if I go quickswitch it will be on the cipher only tbh. But that can also be considered. Yet, it will be someone with high DEX+INT, good STR+PER and dump RES+CON. Probably will stop STR at 15, as he's going to be on the backline not doing dragon thrashed, the lashing song isnt affected by str either (and is the best imo for this setup) and will value CON more than RES for this one. INT because of song range and spells (which have good yet limited effects, so I want to make the best of them, also, ancient memory) and DEX because if he's going to be the scroll guy, he needs to be casting it quickly. Yet I'm thinking lore from items+background should be fine to hit 4 lore for basic defense and acc scrolls. So in the end, ill want something like: - Aspirant's mark !!!! I can't begin to tell you how much I love this talent without having a druid/mage on the team. 1/encounter with a 40+ second duration debuff is too good. - Both ancient memory talents - Weapon focus peasant, Stormcaller main, sagani bow/persistence before, having hatchet/large or medium shield when melee happens and I cant shake it off (or stun/prone happening. One can switch for insta goodie defenses on afflictions and not suffer a horrible death) - Maybe penetrating shot, since a chanter is generaly quite free to take talents. So, that's 5 talents, i'll be full build at lvl 6 LOL xD Oh, on the run I'm doing, I have a lvl 12 priest with low per (6) and str (12), I actualy took weapon and shield+cautious atack and it made a tremendous difference. I normaly want him on the backside taking low dmg potshots with chance of domination, but when mobs break the line (charge, shadow teleport, etc) she changes to medium shield and gets actualy a very good deflection score for what I built her for. Very good adition, a wooping 95 deflection score with weapon and shield unbuffed (with bracers of deflection too), so maybe chanter will take weapon and shield too for tougher fights that I cannot avoid mobs swarming... Food for thought. Also, I dislike envenomed strike, so I guess marksman would be another good adition? Also, is the stormcaller bow worth it? Like, best ranged weapon ingame for ranger yes, but maybe not for chanter? What else is there to consider? It does save a durgan steel... EDIT: Should I want to wait for Pallegina? Her flames of devotion seems sick with an all out party like this, but I dont know if I'll miss the endurance on kill from kind wayfarer

Would be my thinking. The one weakness that custom companions have is only being hireable at a level lower than the main character, and since experience required for a level up is not linear this leads to a larger experience gap. Ideally you'd also want to hire your companions with your main character dead on 1000xp. If you have the backer ring (Gaun's Share) then you can sell that to Heodan for about 1500g. The Disappointer (the unique pistol you find in the hidden cache near the Glanfathan camp) can be sold for about 150 as well (it used to sell for a lot more). Beyond that make sure to return to Heodan before interacting with the waterskin but after exploring everything else on the first map, and sell anything you don't need. The reason for this is Heodan pays more than any of merchant in the game. That said, without Gaun's Share it might be difficult to get enough money to hire multiple (or even one) custom companion straight away, Which maps ahead have good lootables without fighting interaction? I do have Gaun's Share, as I normaly can rush to Gilded vale, sell my belongings and hire 4 doodes. I now want to hire 2 more doodes, which make me need +500g. Where do you folks think I can find those 500g, without adding much experience to MC and not engaging in fights (I think I can take out the one spiderling with a small stash inside temple of eothas alone)?

Thing is, while doing buns of damage is indeed nice, I focus on targeting priority targets (when possible) with the lady of pain, which means she's going after the squishies. Now, there's 3 things she does that can lower those squishies effectiveness:1. Knockdown 2. Clear out 3. Interrupt After that, I can only rely on interrupts if shet hit the fan and I had to use all of my stuff on not enough stuff, if you know what I'm saying... Perma prone locking someone after the 1st knockdown should be pretty feasible even without disciplined barrage, until they're dead (pesky wizards generaly). I still haven't made the decision, nor have I braved the white forge yet in this run, so no durgan available yet. Why do you fancy on crit effects with barbarian other than carnage? Well it's just carnage really, barbarians don't have great base accuracy but with decent perception they do fine. But carnage, (and HOF) are ridiculously powerful. I just find that while prone or stun are great, if it's a choice between more damage or the effect I'd rather go more damage, unless the character in question has carnage. But it also depends on party composition. If you have a ranger then tidefall is even better, and the ranger can then use stormcaller. Otherwise the ranger could use persistence for wounding. But the thing is, there are so many options, and to be honest they don't really make a massive difference in the end, so I'd probably go with what looks cooler.... Another thing, I make it a quest for myself to not use paralize scrolls for dragon fights. I haven't faced any dragon so far on this run (went to the sky temple to get the final enchant on stormcaller and that was it ). I guess I'm going with Boeroer's advice on stats, I have decent int for lasting prones and other effects (barrage and defense buff), so I'm guessing I'll go with Hours

Thank you all for your input. Right now I'm thinking of the folowing: Pala Kind Wayfarer for Strange Mercy and Outworn buckler (sorry peddroelm, can't pass it up :D) Lady of pain (I'll suss out which kind of lady of pain I need during the playthrough) Witch doctor ( I do love monks ) Riptide & Pit Fright Quickswitching Cipher that goes melee after he wears down the guns (i'll polish the details out of this one later) Ranged chanter that supports people. No rogue here (sorry boeroer) because I'm not really a fan of flames... of scrolls I mean. Also I don't really like classes that have their usefulness/main purpose cut to the later lvls (deathblow) Chanter will probably be the scroll guy too and since there's so much melee around, I guess I'm going to have to pump con for each one atleast 2 points just to make them a bit sturdier early on. Races: Lady of pain fire godlike? Paladin pale elf/coastal aumua/moon godie? Monk Coastal aumua (i really don't like to be prone xD) Riptide Hearth orlan Cipher either boreal dwarf or Island aumua (depending if I do decide to go quickswitch, I haven't thought of talent order and priority yet) Wood elf Chanter How much does it hurt each disposition on cruel for a MC Kind Wayfarer Pala? Gift of the machine and resentment are a good thing and maybe I do wan't to take advantage of the buffs on someone else.. Lady of pain can also be a scroll woman and even the monk. I like saving the mechanics slot on someone that doesn't need much on the athletics side, so the backline chanter would be it. And yes pedrroelm, party AI turned off for everyone except wolf/stag. Stag or wolf for this comp? Probably wolf but I'm willing to listen Should I replace any of these guys for a barbarian?

Well, I guess I have misread Overbearing, I had believed it to say "on hit or crit" like the domination effect of Gyrd. The Tidefall bleed is something I hadn't considered for the pet. Yet, right now it comes down to the pet and the pala to hold the melee, while the Lady goes wild in the back. Hmmm.... that's something to consider for bosses, but I believe that right now, after I use knockdown on someone with the lady (and is not a dragon with 130 fortitude checks), they will stay down if I use something with overbearing. And the Lady can always come back to the paladin's side to take benefit of the marking. Am thinking now of the marking to focus fire the frontline itself with wolf, ploi and stormcaller... Hmmm..... So, Hours of St. Rumbalt win the ticket?

So, I wana build a strong party, 4-5 melees, 1-2 rangeds, with having NO VANCIAN CASTERS. I have to put this in caps because I never imagined playin this game without a cleric xD. Since I've started replaying Pillars, I've done a few runs with a 4 man squad, and here I stand, looking for ways to challenge myself, even if I have a bad habit of "abandoning" runs at high lvls (I haven't figured exactly why). So, I think for this I need a paladin, which I didn't wana use for this run, because last 2 runs had paladin on it as MT... Thinking Golden Barbarian is the way to go here for MT. But what else? Lady of Pain will have her spot of course, probably Fulmineo Prodroni and so will SOMEONE to use a Stormcaller. Who though? A rogue this time maybe? Or keep the ranger but change the pet to antelope or something for a HUGE melee? (5/6 characters in a messy melee? Sign me up!) Chanter might have his place back into the party this time around, and a melee cipher!! I so wana try this out :D. ? I dont mind at all duplicating classes, I believe fighter would serve best as knockdown and innate regen is the best all around stater out there. Maybe double chanter? Or maybe double melee cipher? Also, bear in mind another thing, there won't be enough GREAT items for everyone, basicaly not until endgame. Not enough sanguine or adras out there sadly. So, food for thought, what would your comp be?

Good advices folks, I'm lookin for a weapon to mow down enemies with. It doesn't need to be Tidefall for max damage and I also tried out the Grey sleeper to check out its paralize property. I went on my way and thought it would proc alot more than it does, thinkin of taking advantage of stormcaller and merciless companion pet to maximize damage when it hits. Yet, another way to proc merciless and lower deflection is prone, which is why I am now searching for an alternative to Grey sleeper, which is a weapon that basicaly comes with good stats, superb quality and 0 investment on it to be good. So I tried it. Underwhelming. So, regarding MaxQuest's thoughts, might is maximized, good health pool (about 300 endurance? need to check later) and damage is not an issue at the moment, every time the Lady of Pain swings a sword, her enemies feel her surname. Also, I believe Lady of Pain is mostly the last ma... woman standing and Ploi goes down sometimes due to overwhelming. Wolf dies most but is also rezd the most, gods bless paladins and their fast revive. Does anyone know the proc rate of overbearing (prone on crit)? Also, the question is basicaly: Blade of Endless Paths or Hours of St. Rumbalt? I do have a Cladìath with marking, yet i was using St graams on my cleric, and I never saw any buff on the minion saying "marking" or something of the sort, so I just assumed it's broken/bugged. I made the cladiath this way just as you thought, to make marking, but not for Lady of Pain. My lady of pain behaves a little like Fullmineo Prodroni, the monk on steroids that knocks out the backline solo. I don't have charge yet on the fighter, but willingly I make it happen, ergo, more often than not, it ends up being the Stormcaller and pet handle the riff raff at the front and Lady of pain isolating targets like marksman/rogues that wana go past the line, or wizards/clerics that have an opening. One knockdown is generaly enough to turn them into mince. My last run also consisted of 4 man squad and it was something like Fullmineo MC, a generic pala tank (yeah, not MC, ended up regretting a bit cuz learned later that he got no bonus due to disposition), a buffer cleric with more offensive drive and Chillfog. I felt however the party underperformed a bit for what I wanted it to do, I ended up cheating a bit on Chillfog and went dragon thrashed, because I felt a HUGE lack of damage. Prodroni did his thing, but I think I needed someone else to do it. Ended up being chillfog heating up enemies hearths. This time I'm quite satisfied with everyone, even the priest, because the priest now does what I need him to do. Survive long enough, dont need to be offensive (hurts a bit not having acc to land aflictions). Can anyone recomend a weapon for the priest as well? Last but not least, right now, the +1 engage helps a bit, doing WM1 and mobs really wana get through to my ranger. PS.: Sorry for the wall of text, there's much to be said, but eh, 2nd post xD

Hello everybody, I have a 4 man setup at Concelhault's doorstep, all lvl 12. Playing on PoTD with all upscaled content possible. Party consists of: - MC Ploi, Shieldbearer Coastal Aumaua Paladin. Has Shatterstar+Outworn, Adra armor. - Lady of pain, 2 handed beast of doom (Coastal aumaua as well). Crossed patch, sanguine armor, binding rope - Generic (i would think) Stormcaller ranger with wolf (has stormcaller and gambesson for alacrity buff 1/rest) - Tweaked Cleric for party purpose, terrible accuracy, but very durable. He's there to buff and hold ppl in melee when they get past the line of warrior pala and pet. This lil piggy has Gyrd for ranged, forgotten tear+Byrngar solace for melee. Using tear only because of the spells, using these on need and sparing some spell slots when necessary. She has 51 acc on melee, so dont worry much about her dmg. SO. What I'm wondering about is, how does overbearing play out on dual handed? Right now, I'm wearing The grey sleeper on the lady of pain, with 91 acc unbuffed. Prior to that i was wearing White Spire with shock lash to profit from stormcaller. Now comes the tricky part: You can't quite lash the Grey sleeper. It's all shiny and stuff, but it.... kind of seems to underperform in terms of damage vs the white spire, simply due to the lash (and the disorienting, lets not forget the powerhouse that proc is). Now, the great sword Hours of St. Rumbalt can be lashed (versus the temperacl that already is lashed, cant profit from stormcaller that much), has anihilation AND overbearing. These 2 SOUND very good together, specialy because I play around on setting up (when I can, obviously) flanks and prones to do big damages. I don't know how to put the question, and I dont mind rerolling for the greatsword talents, but, which one you think is better? PS.: Finaly got around to make an account and post it :D first post hype!
