  1. Alas it seems as though that referral system needed to happen BEFORE we signed up, as it needs to create a new account. Oh wells.
  2. At the same time, I think very little will be missing if they aren't there. I think it's not a big deal personally.
  3. Well, if BioWare hopes to come close to their claims for content, it wouldn't be a little bit of content, it'd be a fair bit (remains to be seen for how much content is in game though. Given that the people you describe that are present in WoW rarely affect my enjoyment of that game, I doubt it will be an issue. At the same time, you'll also never get the experience of playing with people that aren't total douches and are actually a lot of fun to play with. It might not cancel it out entirely, but I do think that this helps a fair bit.
  4. I guess you would know better, seeing as you are in on the biz and all - that could, on the other hand, make your argument suspect, if I were a wee bit cynical (). But even if I didn't want to believe that it's not financially viable for a developer to make a game with a branching ad infinitum plot... why would they want to put in much more work for the same money? Who the hell does that?! Okay, in that sense I stand corrected that, if someone had deep enough pockets and didn't care to turn a profit, then yeah, it could be possible. I don't know many businesses that are like that though
  5. Bad karma for your opinions on Dragon Age
  6. My roommate and I have created our new characters on Windfola! :D
  7. Nothing online? That's too bad.
  8. You have until the end of tomorrow I would suspect to notify me of any "recruit a friend" type deals to get a free month!
  9. Are quality and reliability the only factors the US military looks at when deciding who's going to be supplying the next zillion rifles for the grunts? Not even they have an unlimited budget. Certainly there is a lot to be said for standards and so forth (As Sawyer also pointed out), but given that revolvers used to be the standard, unless there's a huge cost benefit to using a more complicated weapon like a semiautomatic pistol, my best guess is that the military considers the semiautomatic pistol to be a more effective weapon than the revolver. For personal use, the revolver seems appealing not necessarily because it's a more effective pistol than a semiautomatic (with metrics of stopping power, lethality, etc), but rather that they are simpler weapons that don't require as much maintenance (important for personal use since for many people, the gun will probably never actually be used), has easier ammunition storage, is easier to fire, etc. My best guess though, is that from some quick reading on the ultra-reliable internets, the advantages of a revolver become diminished in the hands of someone that is knowledgeable and diligent in maintaining the weapon.
  10. So I guess the important thing here is, do the situations that would be better served by a revolver apply to Michael Thorton?
  11. I have a feeling most people aren't like Mr. Jerry, so it actually doesn't prove the point. I won't dispute that revolvers aren't completely obsolete, and will have some advantages over a semi-automatic pistol. But the fact remains that the revolvers are nowhere near as common anymore. I know Wikipedia is only so accurate, but looking at the list of currently in use sidearms, I don't see many revolvers being used by the US Military forces. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_indiv...S._armed_forces
  12. Just during lunch hours... "
  13. What are the recruit a friend capabilities of this game? Might as well take advantage of it as I have decided to give this game a go.
  14. Sooooooooooooooooooooooo, In case my roommate isn't 100% keen on swapping servers to play, I'll probably have characters on two servers (unless you guys are okay with creating alts on the server we're on). I have a level 11 champion on the Vilya, and a level 12 Guardian on Windfola. I can certainly understand a preference if Hurlshot would like to stay on Taranto since his other characters are there. I'll probably make a Captain (they sound like fun too haha) if/when we start playing.
  15. No, you should log in now! I noticed you hadn't logged in for a week or so. Forgot that you were out of town. I'm still on the trial version, but verrrry much leaning on confirming this Which class is the best for using two-handed weapons?
  16. Loaded up the 10 day free trial of Lord of the Rings Online
  17. Hey Hurlshot, I created a Guardian on Windora. Name is Johaladin
  18. What server are you on? Looks like Windfola....
  19. We're mostly waiting for Champions Online. Though LOTR has us hooked I think. The trait system seems intriguing. At least at level 11. It's a fun way to get us to kill random mobs
  20. Hello fellow MMO players, My roommate and I have finally grown a bit tired of WoW and currently we're hunting for other MMOs to play. We're not even really against the WoW playstyle, and are open to PvP and PvE style games. Right now we have a 10 day free trial of LOTRO and are curious about WAR as well. ANyone have any suggestions?
  21. I don't know who or what Stardock is. Somebody mentioned online activation for patches, though? Well that's no better than any other form of online activation, is it? I'd certainly call that intrusive. But I also think Steam is intrusive (for exactly the same reason). I really don't like the concept of online activation. You wouldn't accept it for a music CD or a movie DVD, now would you? Funny that the champions for no-DRM implemented this then. Obviously they felt it was enough of a concern that if you wanted to patch your game, then you needed to do a quick validation in order to download the game. This discussion has nothing to do with CDs or movie DVDs. That's a red herring.
  22. Was that the bloodlines character creation where if you went back and forth you could reapply points?
  23. If it gets added at the end of the product development cycle, unfortunately it's never just an easy implementation. Features added at the end of product development cycles require significantly more QA time to test, simply because there's more product to test.
  24. Because it's too expensive. Branching paths in a single player game experience makes the game exponentially larger, because you'll literally be getting many games in one. I know that'd be awesome as a game player, but lets get realistic here, no game company is going to make a game that is essentially many games in one, as opposed to releasing them all as individual games. Speaking of hating to explain this all the time... Just to reiterate: There is no way any game developer would even dream of making a game with the scope that BioWare is planning with SWTOR as a single player only game. It's not financially feasible. I may only pay one time for Warcraft 3 than I do for WoW, but I played significantly more hours in WoW than I ever would have in Warcraft 3 (that and they are completely different games).
  25. It's not about "taking out a completely optional feature." It's about "putting in a completely optional feature." If the game already supports it then fine, but if it doesn't, some people would rather that time and effort be put into doing something else that they will benefit from.
