They probably don't have any RPG pedigree, but the they got the atmosphere and action based combat down pat, that's for sure :)

(and a lot of experience with actual, well working coop design from Killing Floor and Killing Floor 2)

I'm not sure I would go that far. Killing Floor 2 was originally made by Tripwire Interactive and Hardsuit Labs seems, by all accounts, to have only been responsible for the PS4 port of the game.

BG3 struggles with just one city.

I can't say that I have run into any performance issues or major bugs on any of my Baldur's Gate III runs thus far - that said, I also don't have Starfield to compare it to given that I'm a bit tired of the Bethesda formula at this point and probably wont pick-up the game until it's on a significant sale. I've been increasingly less impressed by each of their recent releases in-turn and don't expect this game to break the trend.

  3. My position at work might be being eliminated due to the department shifting around but I have an interview for a replacement in the same organization on Thursday and another at an external one in the works (the latter would actually be several steps higher and a decent pay raise so I'm honestly more interested in that, although it also depends on who gives me what offer when). So, while the prospect of possibly being temporarily jobless isn't ideal, things could be worse given the situation and I'm also in a field that is growing rather than shrinking despite the questionable economy and job market.

Are there any expansions that were actually as good as the core game? I'm trying to think of some but nothing comes to mind.

The examples that immediately come to mind are Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark as both are generally considered better than the original Neverwinter Nights campaign and, likewise, Mask of the Betrayer and Storm of Zehir are generally considered better than base Neverwinter Nights II. And, shifting genera, both War of the Chosen and Enemy Within were generally considered better than XCOM II and XCOM respectively. The Witcher III: Blood and Wine could also be claimed to be better than the base game, as could The Shivering Isles for Oblivion and both Tribunal and Bloodmoon for Morrowind.

I'm sure there are probably more, but it certainly seems within the realm of possibility that an expansion could meet or exceed the original game (particularly in the CRPG market).

Wonder if they'll cop another fine for lumping crypto losses in with 'gaming' again?

I doubt it, the GeForce is their gaming line and they don't know what end-users are doing with the cards (someone might be gaming, another rendering, and another mining - but they're all using the consumer gaming product line).

Just throwing this out there but Congress could fix the abortion thing once and for all by passing a very simple bill that says something to he effect of "neither congress nor the states nor municipalities shall intercede nor infringe on lawful and consenting transactions between citizens/residents/guests etc and doctors/nurses/etc".

But that would require congress both be useful and competent... So the likelihood of that actually passing seems essentially nonexistent even if the votes were there. :shrugz:

I'm in the office at 7.

That's unfortunate. Currently I generally start work around 11:00 give or take although some days have to start earlier if there is a morning meeting or something that has to be done early.
But that's also because I can mostly work from home and independently so unless I have to go into the office I can set my own hours/schedule (that sometimes involves staying up until the wee hours of the morning fixing security vulnerabilities so things even out).

Today was an on-site day because I needed to oversee the move of a petabyte server to one of the datacenters and I'd forgotten how heavy spinning rust can be when massed in one place.

  8. Work hired a replacement for my previous position since it looks like I'll probably go from a loan to a fixture on the new team. And while I think things are going well it's still somewhat unsettling to know it might be harder to switch back if that isn't the case since they've effectively hired someone to take over. But I've still got at least a year before anything would change so hiring someone was probably a good call regardless (I'm filling-in for someone who got deployed and, honestly, I'd rather stay with the new group so I'm hoping this does become permanent).

I assume I didn't get the most uber version possible (D15S, it's all black!) which is fine since I don't manually OC (CPU just does that varied volt/oc on its own) but no game has gone over 55C, even cpu-intensive unity games .

That's one step down from the top-of-the-line model, the D15, but nearly as good.

I haven't played Exodus yet, but I enjoyed both 2033 and Last Light well enough. Metro's biggest failing is that it's not as good as S.T.A.L.K.E.R., but, well, nothing is.

One of my dream games would be a fully co-op version of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - that would take away from the horror slightly but I think it would be a good game.

  11. My girlfriend's fever broke and she's feeling better, plus the COVID test came back negative! Unfortunately today she got notified that she had been exposed to someone who had tested positive while going to the doctor to get tested so the plans to meet in-person have been put-off until she tests negative again (ideally without any additional exposure incidents). I'm sure the irony of what happened will be amusing down the line but at the moment it's more frustrating than anything else.
