  1. In the comic Ommin refers to the person he is talking to as his son, maybe massive disfiguration at a later age runs in the family, if so they must have one hell of a plastic surgeon and dermatologist.
  2. What I 'made up' above was that the Masked Guy and Revan fight right after Kotor. It explains the 'exile' for both the LS and the DS Revan. If LS, then he fought to defend the republic; got badly injured, or something else happened, and he had to go to a remote system. If DS, then obviously he fought for his own 'empire'. If that is the case then yeah it could be just some very advantageous, and increadibly powerful Sith. Wouldn't it be odd if the person you played turned out to be Revan again (that would probably be bad). It is true that rivalries would make it hard for even the most powerful Sith lord. Sion does look like one mean guy though.
  3. Pretty good, I am curious though, who is "Darth Y", since I only know of Sion and the Masked Darth. If one played the DS path in KOTOR I find it hard to believe that Revan, especially having reached such great power and with such a weapon at his disposal, could have been easily removed or defeated. I honestly think the Masked Darth might be Revan. I know they said Revan and Malak are missing and dead respectively, but I just find it hard to believe Revan was taken out. Then again the masked guy might be like some uber Sith lord. I would have to imagine Scion is infinatly more powerful then we think, his body is crushed and by all means should be dead, but he is able to hold it together and still be a capable Sith Lord. As a side note if I were a Sith lord I would much rather have my capitol and training facility on Onderon instead of Korriban. As another side note, can anyone picture that guy who played Anakin in episode two as Vader. Somehow a tantrum throwing wus just doesn't seem to convey the power of Vader.
  4. The first post was to say the Sith may have been drawn from the Scythians. Could other totalitatian regimes serves as inspiration for the Empire, yes, but most people are agreed that GL drew much of his inspiration for the Empire from the Nazis. Just look at the way that Palpatine came to power, the military buildup that followed, it all mirrors Hitler's rise. What I fail to understand is why it seems to be so offensive to you that GL probably used the Nazis as inspiration. The Bolshiveks took over by revolution from outside of government, and Hitler from within which is exactly what Palpatine did. So yes while GL did get Palpatines name from Rome (Palatine), much of the inspiration for the Empire is from the Nazi regime, with only other small aspects being drawn from other nations (the Imperial guards red uniforms probably drawn from Roman Praetorian guard).
  5. You're missing the forest for the trees, though. As an individual puzzle piece, it means nothing; connected, it's pretty clear. - Minions who call themselves Stormtroopers (though they had different functions in the two states; in the Empire, they're the grunt soldiers, and in the Nazi regime they were the brown-shirted thugs who beat up opponents of the Nazis prior to Hitler seizing power but never had any real military function.) - Officers in Feldgrau (Field Grey), usually associated with the World War II German army. - While the whole 'Emperor hates non-humans' thing is mostly a product of the EU, one can't help but notice that the OT's Imperial officer corps consisted entirely of white male humans. - An emphasis on 'super-weapons' to bring victory. German propaganda towards the end of the war always focused on 'wonder weapons' which were about to be rolled out which would save Germany from defeat, but which actually sapped a tremendous amount of their resources for very little practical gain; by the same token, the Empire builds one monolithic Death Star rather than god only knows how many Star Destroyers they could've built using that time and those resources only to see it disappear because of a single X-Wing fighter. Anecdotal evidence on it's own, admittedly....but seriously, I'm utterly baffled how people can deny the connections. I've certainly never heard Lucas deny it, and to me it seems patently obvious. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thank you Ivan, I really do not understand the anathema people have towards making a connection between the two. Infact since GL makes the Empire out to be a personification of evil doesn't it stand to reason that using the Nazis as a model would not be offensive to anyone. The officers uniforms, Vaders helmet, the use of black grey and brown, all are indicative of the Nazis having been an inspiration for the Empire. It is just amazing that some people continue to argue with us on what seems to be pretty clear.
  6. Good one on Mira Ivan.
  7. Ivan you are probably right. Just given the Sith and Scythians names, and the penchant for conquest that the Scythians descendants possesed it seemed like a logical connection. Thats what happens when your a SW fan and the writings of Herodotus all of a sudden have a very similiar word to the wirtings of Lucas.
  8. Your logic for Korriban is flawed seeing how Korriban was created in the comics and not by George Lucas at all. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well it is more of a question about Star Wars in general and not Lucas, since I am relatively certain much of SW is drawn from history or older mythology. For example the Jedi order, outside of the seeming inability to breed, is based on the Guardians in Plato's Republic. So it occured to me that given location and geographic features of planets that the Sith might be based off of the Scythians. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I would say that the jedi religion is drawn more from eastern philosiphies like Bubbhism and Taoism but that is just my opinion. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I thought that too, and while they definatly have a lot in common with eastern philosophies, the purpose they serve is exactly like Plato's Guardians. The Guardians were taken from a young age, trained in war, leadership, and philosophy. They were used to defend the state and serve as its leaders, but in the case of SW they serve more as advisors. You are right that they are heavily influenced by Buddhism and Taoism, but also by Plato's Republic and Monastic orders.

  10. Well Prodigal what I really intended was to get feedback on the idea that Lucas may have based the Scith off of the Scythians, but once someone reads Nazi it just seems to take a life of its own.
  11. The Art of Star Wars books, released by Lucas, show him using pictures of Nazi propoganda to model the Imperial forces on.
  12. I am pretty sure this picture with Darth Scion has been out for almost a month now.
  13. I think the idea that Star Wars is influenced by the Nazis is a little far fetched! And All armies have parades to welcome their leaders and to award medals to their heros, it is not something unique to the germans! Its a military thing. lets not get carried away. Oh No! They have parades, they must be influenced by Nazis! Oh My God! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Darth the Rebels had a medal ceremony at the end of A New Hope, that wasn't what I was talking about, I was only talking about the Empire. The Empires uniforms and actions were clearly based on the Nazis. The two Death Stars could even be representative of the Nazi warships Bismark and Tirpitz, both of which were the most powerful and ultimatly destroyed, the Tirpitz having been destroyed in harbor and never having its full capabilities tested.
  14. Yes the small crowd was dissappointing. The number of people in the picture about I believe was something like 250,000-300,000. I was hoping for a final scene more like the one that ended SW Attack of the Clones, just without the star destroyers.
  15. I think the prestige classes will be cool if they greatly augment your powers, have an affect on how your character appears, and also give your character more unique outfits then the standard LS/DS robes. Also I think prestige classes should have some kind of affect on how people interact with your character, as should your alignment with either side.
  16. I think the connection with Nazi propoganda is the usage of large numbers of soldiers in imposing uniforms. The Imperial Guard cut a very striking figure, and almost all assemblies are of large numbers in parade precision. Look at the Nurenberg films and you can really see the influence it had on how Lucas shot scenes with Stormtroopers and the emperor.
  17. Those of us who have watched Star Wars episodes 4-6, I am assuming all of us have, should know that the Empire was a reference to the Nazis. Palpatine's name was taken from the Palatine hill, which was the location of the Roman imperial palace. What many people may not know is the Sith name might be taken from the Scythians. If one looks at Korribans location it is to the East on the galactic map, also Herodotus (spelling) called the Scythians the Scyth in his writings. For those unfamiliar with the Scythians they were a nomadic culture which spawned the Sarmatian, Hun, Khazar, and Mongolian empires. They lived on the steppe, which is barren compared to Western Europe, and part of their region, the Caucaus mountains, can be very jagged. Korriban was a mountainous and relatively barren world. Plus while the Valley of the Sith can be related to the Valley of the Kings in Egypt, the Scythians also practised similiar burial rituals ie burrying a leader with his possesions, and on occasion significant others. Just a thought.
  18. What I liked to do was start out as a warrior and then when it came time to chose which kind of Jedi I would be I would take the Consular class. By doing this I had the phyiscal advantages of being a warrior, which would offset the lack of feats that one has as a Consular. I found it really effective, made my character a real bad ass with both force powers and fighting ability.
  19. I think that in KOTOR2 players should finally be able to see Mandalore. Canderous Ordo was certanly an interesting character, and HK-47 passed through Mandalore. Boba Fett (I will not dignify Jango) is a Mandalorian. I think it would be interesting if Star Wars fans were finally able to explore the planet. Even if it isn't at its former glory it would definatly be a departure from the norm and quite interesting.
