I do agree with you about the Sawyerisms and I will add that Chris Avellone needs to find a new DM to study under because, while I suck at RTwP games, I do NOT suck at turn based games and his contribution to Wasteland 2 was the longest pain-in-the-ass slog I've ever gone through in a TBS game and I play Giant Marathon games on Civ 4 (Realism Invictus) for fun. He's a damn good writer when he's not being cryptic. I'll give him that.

Well since you've been both bashing the game and trolling Obsidian on these boards for years before release, this is a shocking statement. Well this should be perfect for him to spill his guts. Centralize it, y'know?

Would you care to elaborate? Those're some heavy concepts you're toting around and I'd hate for it to all just be hyperbole. Vent, my friend! Spill your guts! Tell Obsidian on their own forum how they hosed you! Cause, seriously, I'm curious. Mediocre is a word I've heard bandied about on the chans but "not even half" and "excuses... are borderline insulting" has my interest piqued.

All I'm going to say about that is that I respectfully disagree that metacritic is the end-all. Besides, I think it yields more results to ask communities who might not normally use the "established way of doing things" like metacritic.

Well yeah. Even the masses (who I trust more of late than reviewers on more well-known sites) love this game which makes the constant harangue of negativity on the forum all the more mystifying to me; especially given how the complaints are contrary to how most people are finding the game (myself included.)

I put the poll in after I wrote the topic. I'll edit the title (if I can.) edit: Damn. I can't. See, I thought my phrasing was clever. I took kickstarters and people who got deals into consideration. It's a catch-all for "I got out what I put in."

I am playing. I just thought it'd be interesting to see some positivity for a change instead of that ever-expanding list of complaints. I mean look at all that (and I didn't even make a tree list to go over every single contradictory nitpick I've seen.) It's absurd!

If you're going to pick "Yes I did and I'll tell you why!" why not TELL US WHY! All the negativity here (and elsewhere) are seriously making me think I got hosed from this game. From what little I've been able to play (I really REALLY suck at these games due to the real-time nature of the combat,) I've been enjoying it but according to this forum (and the two chans' forums,) Obsidian screwed up on damn near every single aspect of the game. Keep in mind I don't agree with these things personally. These are just things I've seen mentioned. The story is weak The classes are either too balanced (from the chans) or not balanced enough (here) The game's too easy The game's system sucks The characters are lame Too much voice acting Weak ending Too small world Too few quests Choices don't matter The music sucks The writing sucks The keep sucks The "endless" dungeon sucks Etc. Etc. Etc. So with all this negativity, I have to ask: Do you feel like you got ripped off, hosed, or otherwise lied to by Obsidian as it pertains to the game itself?

Yeah, that's why the wife and I left it. I'll admit, your tone was pissing me off but you're right. An awful lot of them are pains like that. I was never extreme enough for Gamergate. Too moderate. Willing to look at all sides of an argument. It used to be about ethics in journalism though. I swear it did. I was there at the beginning. Now it's devolved into this mirror image of the SJW crowd they rail against. It's really sad, to be honest.

This is not about whether I think Boob plate is stupid or excellent. This is about developers having a vision, and then having to edit/change/ax that vision simply because someone in the social media made noise about it. The boob plate thing (and even the backer tombstone) are relatively minor issues, but this doesn't change the *thing* here. There is an end game.... A place that cutting out content whenever someone complains about it can reach. And that Place is: Bland Uniformity. That state of the industry when we can no longer readily find a game world that does anything different from any other game world. Where we can't look and say: "hey! that's unique!" Currently, we can blame the gigantic publishers and their PR fears for this. But if Obsidian decides to go down that same road.... As a backer I don't like boobplate I think it's stupid, I wasn't the only one back in 2012. Soooo... Why are you acting like the boobplate question was due an outside force trying to inflict views on the game when clearly it wasn't This was one of the first issues discussed in these forums. If backers can't ask for changes and question decisions who can? Just you? The rub, for me at least, is these people don't ask: they demand and demand and demand and demand until they get their way. They're whiny children. Asking is fine. Even begging is fine if you're really passionate about something. Outright demanding it like a small child is not ok in my book. I don't care if they were demanding something I agreed with. Say they were demanding that physically disabled people be allowed to do desk jobs for the military (something I've held should be allowed since I was 12 and first had the idea,) I wouldn't be with them because of the methods used to achieve the goal. I'm sorry but methods matter to me. I'd have posted a more topical example but, tactless as I am, even I know that topical examples can lead to massive off-topic ****storms.

Honest to god, I'm going to take Firedorn's word that they originally weren't going to censor his limerick because I am a hopeless optimist. Using that as the foundation, I don't think they'll cave. I'm just sick of these damn moral crusaders demanding people change their art (drawing, writing, playing, creating) because they don't like it. At least the crusaders of the 80s and 90s had the decency to look snazzy when they were demonizing our hobby, Seriously, I am really tired of it. Every damn day it feels like they're chipping away more and more of the things I enjoy (one of them being unfettered artistic vision from people who are way more creative than I am.) I mean disagree all you want. Hell, boycott the game if you hate it but please stop trying to make your opinions the law of the land. Let the free market do that. If enough people boycott the game, maybe devs will listen to you. Outright DEMANDING is childish, entitled, and morally wrong and you'll notice that I'm merely ASKING them to stop, nay BEGGING them to stop. I am not DEMANDING they stop.
