I can't disagree more and can not even understand how someone that played the game can say that. It's one of the major positive points of this game to have choices that have effects on the story and to have paths that are so different. I've played two times and chapter 2 and 3 are very different in both playthrough. Of course, another playthrough would be closer to one of the two first, but it's at least better than games like DA or ME. By a large margin. Outside of sandbox rpgs, only AP delivers more capacity to shape the story in last five years games.

I'm playing Winter Voices ep. 4. It keeps on captivating me. A graceful story with some good music. Nothing exceptionnal, but refreshing.

I've just finished my second playthrough. I'm really amazed how the game plays differently depending on the path chosen. Despite the QTE, some poor design and UI decisions, I think this game is among the best RPGs of the last five years. I don't understand why a company as big as Bioware can't deliver such quality in story and choices. I think there is one word that sums up the difference between both companies : dedication.

I don't want epicness in my games. Nowadays, every rpg needs to be epic or it's a scenario failure. Epic can be sometimes interesting, but if every movie or book was epic, it woud become quickly boring. When I read an editorial about a game that regrets the game is not enough epic, I know I won't agree with what I read. No offense to you, Calax, that's just that 'epic' is overused, overasked and all in all, overboring if found everywhere.

About combat and gameplay, I can't really say. I'm playing easy level to enjoy the story and don't care much about combat. I feel that combat is boring in all games that are not turn based, but it can just be me.

Well, it may depend on pathes, but based on my first playthrough : - - - There gets 8 endings possible. I'm sure that with the other path, you can also find 8 endings. But sure, differences are minor.

I'm not at all advocating QTE. I think it's up to the devs to put those things in games if they want and think that some people may enjoy it. But at the same time, since they allow (thankfully !) us to disable difficult QTEs, they could have pushed the option up to disable all QTE. They could even have done a three choices option : - all QTEs - disable difficult QTEs - disable all QTEs. The amount of dev for that is not very big. The only issue is with testing. But even that, the dev is so simple (just put the variables at success value for every QTE success check) that the test shouldn't reveal many issues. That makes me think that even if I enjoy a lot the story and the choices in the game because the choices are this time meaningful and not just a little variation, they could have put more than two choices each time there is a choice. I mean, binary choice is the minimum (for obvious reason, if there is only one solution, there is no choice), but a bit more variations could also be good. Yeah, it's a minor complaint, I know. I just looking for critics to give outside of the UI and controls in the game. I wish we can find (outside of the indie market) some PC RPG that don't feel as being a bad ported console action game. I mean, I do play with a keyboard having more than 50 keys and a mouse that has a pointer (which could even be hardware managed) and three button (with a scrolling wheel). I know they have to think about a way to allow a gamepad experience, but they also can think about a proper way to control the game normally through the usual input device of a PC.

To sum up a bit with QTE disabled : - Prologue - Chap 1 - Chap 1 - Chap 1 - Chap 2 Don't remember - Chap 3 Maybe others I don't remeber. What I don get is why with difficult QTE removed you still get some QTE ? Couldn't they just remove all the QTE for people that don't want QTE ?

What you can do is just farming a bit of Nekker for some xp and mutagens and hope to find some mutagens that upgrade your damages. Finding a better silver sword may take some time in chapter 1. Normally, strong strikes against the queen should be efficient. MAy be try and find some insect oil. For specter oil, I have no idea. There are many marchants that have formulas. The one at the market. The one between the guard house and the tavern and the witch in the village.

Kaftan, you should do the Troll quest before doing the heavy combat oriented quests (quests outside town). It sure help if you don't have an imported Geralt.
-
On easy, Endrega queen is too slow to react to quick attacks spammed and she can be cornered. Only issue is when there are multiple endrega. Then, you have to roll to be sure that all the enemies are in front of you. Also, if on easy you find endregas difficult, that means you are lacking an armor upgrade. In easy, having an armor between 15 and 20 in chapter 1 is sufficient to take only few damage per hit, even from endrega.

Troll trouble fix : http://www.gog.com/en/forum/the_witcher_2/..._head_bug/post8 In the Witcher world, chemistry seems to be at a high level. Besides, evolution theory is not a technological invention, it's a theoritical knowledge and could have been developped during antiquity (where atoms where already considered). Mutation is (in the game) a very visible modification of human metabolism induced by chemistry. All of it can be attained in the Witcher world easily. On the other hand, vaccination and immunology are technology. Technologies are expensive to develop and you can suppose that in a non democratic society, society issues may lack funds for technology development : if the aristorcacy doesn't suffer from the sae illness as poor people, like plagues, no treatment may ave been developped.

Loadings appear when there is a map change, at minimum : so cave entries, from the military camp to battle field, from Flotsam to exterior,...

Finished my first play through yesterday. Satisfying game with an end that is not too long to be bothering. They may have add somewhere a chapter in the middle, betwwen 2 and 3. Just to get the opportunity to learn a bit of the story before the end, avoiding the chats at chapter 3 where you get all information by simple discussions.

You can mod a bit using this : http://www.gog.com/en/forum/the_witcher_2/...zip_for_modders

Even with qte disabled, there remain some, like in the first boss fight of chapter 1. With the wraith in the asylum, I've used a lot of dodge to maneuver such that both wraiths are at the same side. Having an enemy in the back is a real killer since you get double damage if you don't have a certain ability.
-
I(m at the beginning of chapter 2. You get much more xp from quests than fight, which is good. Other positive points, there are no waves of monsters with some rare exceptions. Negative point is of course the qte. At least, now that I've lowered the graphic options, it becomes easier. But it remains awful.

Well, yesterday evening, I was a bit drunk so I have maybe overreacted on the failure. I will try thi week end if I have some time to play. Nonetheless, I hate boss fights in general. I don't even understand why every rpg designer always puts those kind of action tropisms in his games.
-
I think the game is pretty good, but boss fights are too difficult for people that don't play a lot of action games. I just tried four times the first boss fight without success on easy difficulty and may have to stop completly the game at the first act. If that is the case, I would be disappointed by that. It's not fun to get older and to have less good coordination. But does that mean that I can thus not enjoy anymore a good rpg ? I thought easy difficulty was the solution for that, bt not in the boss fights. I'm just sad.

I've never bought a console in the 35 years of my life. I would have first to buy a TV set and don't like the idea of playing with a controller instead of a keyboard and mouse. That's like going to the mountains and doing luge instead of ski. Or reading magazines instead of books. Edit : still playing Avadon.

Gothic 2 is well done and the expension fits very well into the game. It's one of the best expansion designed for the game since it changes many small things all along the game. Divinity is also a good game but with a slow beginning : you begin in a village and have to go through a pretty long dungeon below the village first before enjoying the whole world. But at the moment you go out from the village, it begins to be much more interesting.

Careful, last time, only the beta version was compatible with firefox 4. But if you have still firefox 3.X, any version will work.

I get about 1.6 MB/s with FDM. I don't get that much with steam (as far as I remember).

Since I couldn't log on with the GOG download manager, I'm using FDM which is a pretty potent downloader compatible with firefox.
