  1. NWN 1... all of it and Undertide. Starting in a "school". It's been done to death
  2. Going in the hospital for an overnight stay on Tuesday. Ugh. For the past few months I've been having this problem that I've tried to ignore. It starts with tingling in my fingers and progressed to numbness in my hand, then later my whole arm. Finally it got to the point I could not ignore it. So I saw my doctor and then a neurologist. Turns out I have scar tissue putting pressure on my radial nerve in my arm. I was in a pretty nasty car accident over 11 years ago. One of the injuries was a compound fracture on that same arm. Which ended up with a couple of pins in it. Now scar tissue inside causing problems. I was acrually relieved. When the doctor said I needed a nerologist the mind conjures up terrible possibilities. The truth was not THAT bad. But a overnight stay in the COVID factory? Ugh.
  3. This isn’t fascism. I don’t think there really is a word for what is going on in this administration. The scary thing he was probably unmoored from reality the entire time and we’re only now getting a good look at just how much. First the election was rigged by the democrat controlled state legislatures of states that traditionally vote Democrat anyway. Then it was a conspiracy between Cuba, Venezuela, China, and now the FBI and the DOJ are complicit. And Kerbs. It’s pretty bizarre. this administration has mostly been a train wreck. But you know the sad thing is there are a few accomplishments he could be proud of. He could have walked away from the office with dignity, with his head held high and resumed his old life. For five years down the road nobody will even hate him anymore. Ex presidents tend to be remembered favorably despite their performance in office. Just look at Jimmy Carter for crying out loud. But this recount business the lawsuits the idiotic tweets and statements the baseless conspiracy theories and having to be dragged kicking and screaming from office there will be no post presidency honeymoon for him. And whatever he did accomplish will be forgotten. it’s like leaving your job. The last thing everyone remembers about you is how you left. No matter what the circumstances of your departure be it voluntary or involuntary your shake everyone’s hand and tell them how great it was to know them and work with them even if it wasn’t true. At least that’s what normal people do but this guy was not normal
  4. The Dems and the GOP are offering us two different flavors of heavy handed authoritarianism. Where do you turn when it’s the authoritarianism that is unacceptable, not the flavor? Some principles are so important they may and must be inflexible as Mr. Lincoln put it. I don’t think putting libertarians in charge of every thing is a particularly good idea. But someone needs to advocate for sanity and restraint in government. No one else is.
  5. Libertarians Have No Home in Either Dominant Political Party Mostly agree. I still fail to see how refusing the vote for what I despise is somehow "wasting" my vote.
  6. Hopefully. Somehow I'm still picturing barbed wire and armed guards though Besides, to quote Assata Shakur “No one is going to give you the education you need to overthrow them. Nobody is going to teach you your true history, teach you your true heroes, if they know that that knowledge will help set you free.” IMO the best education you can possibly get is ultimately self directed. The best service a public school can give (beyond the basic curriculum) to to teach children how to learn on their own and inspire the desire to do so. It won't take for everyone I guess. But the world needs ditch diggers too. One thing that gives me hope is the one teacher on this board tries very hard to do exactly that!
  7. A wise man in the USA today should give up on his fellow Americans as well as his government. Not only can they not be saved from themselves, they don't even want to be. A wise man should be making sound financial decisions and preparing to take care of himself and his family because you should assume no one else can ever be counted on. If you are in debt, get out. If you are not don't go in. Don't spend money needlessly. Have a store of non perishable food in your home. At least three weeks worth. Buy a gun and, most importantly, learn to use it. Invest in diverse things and at least half in assets not tied to the dollar's value. Learn what hyper-inflation is and how to deal with it. You've got to look out for yourself. No one else will. That is the truth. Just my $.02
  8. LOL I had to look that one up. I had no idea who that was. But he DOES sound like me!
  9. Even the National Review, the conservative magazine of record, calls Trumps fight disgraceful
  10. I had an interesting e-mail exchange with an associate from work. Her team is working on a publicly funded solar energy project from the finance side. Now, this project will not actually accomplish anything. It will convert a number of landscaping lights in city parks to solar powered. Most of these are low lumen LED so they are already energy efficient. Converting these to solar power is a cost that will never, ever be recouped in energy savings. But, the city folks can go to the voters in 2021 & 2022 and thump their chests about their "green" energy initiative even though solar in this application is less environmentally friendly and is actually costing the taxpayers more. But.... I can't fix stupid. All I can do is verify material costs of re-working the non-potable groundwater irrigation system that must be moved to accommodate solar panels. Oh, and by the way, THOSE costs will not be counted when the city folks running for re-election crow about their cost savings even though they were only incurred BECAUSE of their pet project. That is how governments work. Anyway, if you hear people talking about power entire neighborhoods using solar energy just nod and back slowly away. They do not know d--k s--t about solar or electricity, or ecology, or cost savings, or much of anything.
  11. If unity at gunpoint is your idea of how to run a railroad you can count me out. In China and even Russia dissenters are imprisioned, shot, poisoned, or just disappeared. You want to see that kind of s--t here? I'll take disunity any day.
  12. Chess sales booming Another pandemic byproduct. Also that show on Netflix helps I think. Hey I love this game before it was cool!
  13. Say what?
  14. You are a good man Gromnir!
  15. I don't live in a city, or town, nor any kind of municipality. Where I live there is no fire department, no trash pick up or water utility. Heck police and EMS are easily 20-30 minutes away. I don't even get mail delivery here! But the nearest town where my PO box is located is Covington TN. Covington is a small and nice enough little town. Population around 8k give or take. It has a handful of historical buildings that make up a quaint "town square": The Lindo Hotel was built around 1850 and has a really great restaurant in it. I wouldn't know myself. The one thing Covington does have is great BBQ joints. Three in fat I'd say were as good as any in the world. @Hurlshot can back me up on how good the Rendezvous is down in Memphis. Bell, I'll take Pappy & Jimmie's every day of the week: Other than that there isn't much to tell. We do have a confederate memorial at the courthouse. I think they are taking it down. Don't know. Don't really care. It's a small town. You can drive across it's widest point in about 5 minutes assuming you don't catch any red lights.
  16. Not much to do today. Just waiting for college football games to start. I was watching YouTube videos. I’ve never played Mass Effect in any version. It never seem like my thing. But I was watching some of the romance cut scenes and all I could think his man this game came pretty close to softcore porn LOL
  17. That’s the 8th Amend actually. But your point is correct . The 5th protects against compulsory self incrimination, seizure of person or property without due process or compensation, double jeopardy, and requires grand jury indictment before a person can be tried. The 8th protects against cruel and unusual punishment, torture, etc
  18. I agree Bruce. It’s a decision only the affected party can make. if your life is yours isn’t your death also? There was a great line in Skyrim: to cling to a thing beyond its usefulness is unseemly. How much more so when that thing is you. However I would never do such a thing or suggest anyone do so if the act will cause more harm to children or family, that kind of thing. well this is about a depressing subject isn’t it? I say we move the conversation along.
  19. Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Americans out there. Happy Thursday to the rest of you fine folks. Hope it's a good one. I'm making split pea soup in the crock pot and fresh bread later. We usually have a pretty big party at the VFW but we decided to cancel this year with everything going on. See? It's ok to be smart and take precautions! It's when the government says "Thou shalt do thus or else" that I get my hackles up.
  20. I do. One of the reasons I'm waiting until I'm pension eligible. I get to buy health insurance at a reduced rate on the state plan. Plus Medicare eventually. And like you I have made arrangements for any pups in my care at the time with Old Friends sanctuary here in TN. Also like you I'm leaving a portion of whatever I leave behind to St. Jude, some to Old Friends, some to Alabama Angels, DAV, and some to my niece and nephew. But if it ever comes to long term managed care, like dementia or Alzheimer's or some other serious illness from which I likely will not recover... I can't do it. I won't do it. I would not eat a bullet. I have a religious objection to suicide. But I would refuse care and let nature take it's course. Wander off into the woods like an old and infirm coyote or something. I'm twice divorced. I have no children, family I barely speak to, few friends, so my critters are my whole world. When the day comes I can no longer responsibly take care of them, what am I clinging to? But... these are concerns that are decades away and may never come at all God willing.
  21. No kidding? That sucks. Hopefully not for long. A few months ago business were fighting for your services.
  22. The military does not work like the real world though. Part of the enlistment contract is to agree to undergo any medical procedures the military deemed medically necessary. That includes a whole bunch of funky vaccines that leaves you sicker than a dog for a couple of days before going overseas. They remind me of that when they pulled my wisdom teeth out. Not that I minded because they really just saved me a couple of hundred bucks down the road. So if they tell you to roll up your sleeves don’t bitch just do it because it’s going to happen no matter what
  23. I’ve read that book. It could have been excellent but it definitely wasn’t. Dan and Grover were both interesting guys who had seen a lot of history. When the focus was on them it was a very interesting read. But Neurburn undermined everything he hoped to accomplish with his incessant whining and self loathing. He made injected himself into the story and he is NOT interesting
