  1. Oh it’s not a loss for sure. That was a toss of dice on the craps table. And I’m inclined to hold on for it for a couple of years and see what happens. Like Bruce and I were saying cryptocurrency is literally buying air and air is volatile. How much is nothing really worth?
  2. Bitcoin lost $10,000 in value since last Thursday. Suddenly I have a feeling like I might have missed the boat
  3. Some Republican pundit I’ve never heard of stated that removing Trump from Twitter was an example of communism. In the same speech she suggested that social media platforms be nationalized. That loud bang you heard was my head exploding.
  4. Do you ever wonder where lost things end up? I was on my way home from the feed store yesterday afternoon. The first Baptist Church of Covington was having a rummage sale so I stopped to look. They had a box of old books they were asking $.10 a piece for. There were about 12 or 13 books in it so I just offered them $20 for the whole box. It’s a church what the heck. They can use it more than I can. anyway I got home and started looking through it and most of it is of course junk. Very threadbare old library copies of books that were published in the 40s and 50s. But there was one remarkable book in there. It was a first print translation of “around the world in 80 days“. It was published in 1889 and it had a direct translation of the original French title “a tour of the world in 80 days“. It’s in terrible shape. The cover is beat up the bindings loose, pages frayed . Not worth anything to any collector. Inside the cover page though was an inscription: “To Eddie, happy 15th Birthday, June 3, 1924.” Eddie is likely no longer with us. He would be 110 years old if he were. But I did get me thinking perhaps his children or grandchildren would like to have that book so I left a voicemail for the pastor of the church to call me back and see if he can find out where the donation came from. This morning I’m sitting at my kitchen table with a cup of coffee and I started reading Eddie’s book. I was a big fan of Jules Verne growing up so I’ve read it before. But what the heck. Books really are treasures aren’t they?
  5. Be careful what you post online. The Internet is forever. in other news it looks like the Trump administration is going to spend the rest of this week trying to boost his legacy. Talk about polishing a turd. But I do expect we will see more pardons this week than the gates of heaven 30 minutes after Armageddon.
  6. I cannot imagine anything about weaponized microwave being non-lethal. I also can’t imagine it being immediately fatal. If you want to kill a man in eight hours to 20 years that would be one way to do it. The majority of my career had been RF electronics until recently. The only people I’ve ever heard of that were actually killed by microwave energy were in Alaska in 1990s. Two guys got lost in the woods near the Bering Sea and broke into a TPN70 Radar ray dome that was part of the PAVE PAWs early warning system. They fell asleep in there and never woke up. But it took hours of continuous exposure to a 60MW S Band transmitter to be lethal.
  7. At some point we went from nothing on the web being true to everything on the web being true. Neither is completely correct but the former is much closer to the truth and certainly the wiser assumption. Sometimes I wonder if the world was better off without the internet. Knowledge was both earned and valued back then. Conspiracy theories didn't proliferate and nut jobs were convinced only THEY knew the truth because they couldn't network. It's been a boon no doubt but sometimes I wonder if it's a net loss. No pun intended.
  8. Do you wanna hear something funny? The closing days of the Trump administration is probably the first time in history that everyone who posts on this board generally agrees about something.
  9. Tommy Lasorda. He was a dodger from his cap to his cleats
  10. One thing is near certain I think you can kiss Trump TV goodbye. As well as the political futures of the children. If the storming of the capital tells us anything it’s that we need to be completely done with the whole sorry lot of them. I cannot imagine any network is going to want to get in bed with them now. Not even Newsmax.
  11. Looking past Jan 20th, during the Trump years the Democrats found a VERY uncharacteristic respect for Federalism. Now that they will have complete control over the Executive and Legislature you can bet THAT goes out the window!
  12. Within 12 hours 4.00 Within 18 hours 2.5 Within 24 hours 0.09 Within 36 hours 0.000000000000000000000001 Unless he's kicked of Twitter, then all lines are closed!
  13. You are correct. Calling this a coup is dressing it up as something it wasn't. It was a bunch of people whipped into a frenzy and then directed at a target. Most of them will end up getting arrested and be made to suffer on kind of justice or another. Unfortunately the guy that lit the dynamite and threw it is going to get away with it. Trump REALLY should have been removed over this.
  14. I heard one of the rioters was a Texas lawyer. His boss saw his picture on the Internet and fired him. You can’t even break into the capital and get away with it these days!
  15. This might be the most appropriate meme for today
  16. Let the memes begin! The last drunk guy to stagger into the floor of the Senate was Ted Kennedy.
  17. 2020: "Hey 2021 top that!" 2021: "Hold my beer!"
  18. As bad as Trump and his administration was it was also not without some accomplishments. However all hi will be remembered for is the way he reacted to losing the election culminating in this BS today. And that is 100% on him. He could have left office with dignity and pride. He wrote his name in the history book and even managed to do a little good here and there even if almost by accident. That should be enough for any ego but apparently it wasn’t. I have always insisted we don’t judge a President until after they have been out of office for a time. It takes time and distance to determine what the actual impact of their administration was. Not this time. This son of a bitch goes straight to the bottom of the list. Warren Harding will be so pleased to hear he is no longer the worst President in US history. EDIT: Correction. Warren’ Harding will be pleased to learn he is no longer the SECOND worst president in American history. Nobody is kicking Woodrow Wilson out of the cellar. He ruined the entire 20th century. Even Trump couldn’t top that one.
  19. Today was unusually productive. I got up early checked my work email and saw nothing had come in. Had black coffee cottage cheese and strawberries for breakfast. Re-checked email still no work. Then I gave Sunny a bath and cleaned her ears. Fed Sunny and the chickens. Then I ordered all the seeds for this year‘s garden. And following such a hectic morning schedule I felt like I deserved a nap. When I got up I rechecked my work email and still no work and come in. So then I sat on the front porch and read a book. It’s a pretty good thing I don’t actually care about my job right now. Because we’re so damn slow I’d be terrified I’d be about to lose it
  20. Irony. Definitely my favorite form of humor
  21. Ironically before the proceedings on the capital and the mob riot Trump had a rally with all of those people and he was laying it on thick there. In fact it would not be a stretch to say that he incited them to do exactly what they did. I’m afraid I agree with Bill Kristol. Once the capitals cleaned out Congress should reconvene and impeach him. January 20 is too long a wait
  22. Congratulations MAGA. You guys are as big a mob of violent animals as ANTIFI. Way to go.
  23. Sometimes it’s hard to believe they’re not paid by the hour LOL
