  1. Since I have a huge backlog of games, and I am not in any great rush I will just wait a year and purchase it on my preferred platform. I was already annoyed that I had to go to the Origin store to get Dragon Age 3 now I just can;t be bothered to keep downloading a thousand different storefronts. If this deal is good financially for Obsidian and it helps them make more good games, then they should do it. I don't really care, this just encourages me to wait for it to get to steam (or even better wait another 6 months on top of that and get it on a steam sale with all the DLC).
  2. I'm doing a concept build of this now. Skald/Unbroken - aiming for 30 int so I can run 2 chants continuously with a huge radius (Come soft winds and dragon thrashed). Plan is basically to run a dwarf that dumps dex, wears the heaviest armor possible, and maxes, might, perception and int. My only problem is that I think I need to run tactical barrage on my fighter instead of discplined stirkes - which I would greatly prefer for the crit synergy with skald- so I can hit 30 int. I literally just started but early game this build wipes the floor on poe as thrice and killers stiff are just super OP with high might even at low levels and skald can cast them every other round. I suspect that one I hit 30 int and upgrade killers stiff I can get 2 rounds of paralyze out of it, which is just going to be hilariously broken as I will be able to chain paralyze giant groups while my passive AOE ticks them down.
  3. Chanter without question, especially a Troubadour. Once you hit level 7 and get Ogres the rest of the game is cream cheese.
  4. My overall experience: 1. They made the first island very hard. 2. Once you leave the first island, and you know where to go, the game becomes a cakewalk again. Sadly I feel this patch doesn't really do a lot to address the actual problem: late game difficulty.
  5. ? Ciphers are amazing this build, both as a single caster or multi because they have early access to charm/dominate. Charm, dominate, summons and explosives make every encounter much easier. There's a term for that, unfortunately: "One-Trick Pony." And chanters also get an AoE charm effect at Tier IV, actually earlier than Ciphers get Ringleader. OK, but it still a pretty great trick! One could argue many of the classes are "one-trick ponies" (see Barbarians for example).

  7. Gorecci street is doable at level 3 with the 2 story companions. Just exit the city on foot, and then come back through the south entrance. Then kite the first group around the corner. Then engage the second group once the first group is dealt with. You can even grab the pendant between groups 1 and 2 to make things easier. Kill the mage in the second group first.
  8. Charms and summons are now much more powerful. Charms in particular because now you can turn the super-charged mobs against themselves. Edit: And bombs. Seriously if you haven't used bombs you should seriously consider it, they take a lot of sting out of the changes.
  9. You can break the animal groups apart and lead them back to chokepoints. that let me get through both encounters with a single restart once I learned the lay of the land (this was with me (herald), xoti and edar). To be fair I am playing a defense-oriented herald who can chain summons which makes everything in the early game much easier. I imagine classes without such advantages would need to use traps/explosives to get through those fights without hiring npcs (even then it would be dicey). You basically need a charm, summons, mercs or lots of consumables to do those fights. Or do an incredible amount of kiting.
  10. I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet, but soft winds of death no longer triggers Shards of Woedica on shattered vengeance. This probably falls into the category of "bug fix" but was pretty great while it lasted!
  11. I agree that the ranger dislike isn't founded, I am having my easiest playthrough with my ranger now, who is completely wrecking face in PoD. Ironically I built this character in a different direction than most folks suggest, war-bow with the DR penetrating talents, marksman and vicious aim (wood elf obviously). Key here is getting accuracy as high as possible because on PoD the mobs tend to be hard to hit. Right now she has something like triple the total damage of the next highest player (Altoth who always has led every other playthrough due to blast).
  12. I understand the concern, but considering I am progressing through the game just fine on the highest difficulty level only using pre-made companions I am not sure what the fuss is about the level of optimization required here. (I have two concurrently running saves, one with a tank specced chanter, the other with an arabalest using rogue). If you absolutely NEED to have the most optimized party possible make your own characters, but I think you can probably complete the game on POD using only story characters (although to be fair I haven't finished the game yet, so maybe there are some endgame encounters much harder than the Spider Queen which I will not be able to complete).
  13. Speaking of chanter mechanics: Does anyone know if Come, Come Soft Winds of Death actually does anything? It doesn't seem to drain enemy stamina at all. (I am playing on PoD so maybe it is getting soaked up by enemies DR?)
  14. Am I the only one who thinks that stats really don't make that much of difference? I'm playing PoD right now using only story characters and some fights are challenging but in general I haven't hit anything I couldn't handle. I much more concerned about poor skill selection but that can be mitigate by just grabbing characters early. Although I have noticed that it seems that you get bonuses for NOT grabbing certain companions early. Example: Kana, if you grab him at level 2 he starts out with normal chants, if you wait until level 3 he gets Lo, Their Endless Host, the Harbingers Doom, which normally chanters can't get until a higher level.
