"How To" KOTOR 2 On Vista
Montegue replied to Bass-GameMaster's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I have an Nvidia card, and was crashing at the very first login. I replaced the DLL file as instructed, taking it from KOTOR I. Then, I was still having problems. So, when the option came up, I chose "Disable Sound". The game started. But it had no sound, and that was annoying. So, I restarted the game, and this time, I chose "Force Software Sound". Game runs perfectly now. Hope this might help others. -

Ok, so Im playing through as a Dark Guardian, having fun being evil guy. But now Im totally stuck. I'm at the end of Telos, and im fighting handmaidens. I loaded my game, and Kiera and Atton are standing there watching me, but they are not in my party. I try to get on my ship, it works, but I have nothing but a black screen. I know the game is still running, because I click to move, save the game, and wind up with a save window showing a frame from in game, but I can't get any graphics to display inside the ship. I have no other save outside of this issue, and I reeeeeeealy dont want to restart my game now. Any suggestions?

Why is duel wielding made superior in KotOR II?
Montegue replied to Fearless_Jedi's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
How? A single blade will always be less powerful than 2 blades. Half as powerful in some cases. SImple math. Sheesh. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Bleh. Not at all. One mind, one weapon. I regularly beat people who face me with two weapons fighting with a single one. (been doing western martial arts for some time now). It's all about timing, distance, place... Saberist - you have a couple of misconceptions about itallian and spanish rapier. Can I ask where you got your info from? -
Jedi Watchman. It's all about balance. And immunity to mind control powers.
-
Right. That's what I said. Boba died in Jedi.
-
None of this is actual SW universe dogma, however. In that, Jango got killed by windu, and Boba died in the sarlacc pit.

Statement - *thank* you. I suppose I can reprioritize my programming to delay the wonton slaughter I had plan. Conclusion - Some meatbags must live to serve my interests.
-
Query - Where are these threads you mentioned, Meatbag? The search feature is beneath one of my programming.
-
Dejected Reply - Beacuse this Meatbag forgot to look it up. Childish Retort - PTHUBUBUBUBUBUBUBUBUB
-
Statement - It looks as though our Masters at Obsidian are planning to patch the game.

Review/Rant/Hopes for the future
Montegue replied to chibijulian's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Two blades gives you no significant advantage over an opponent with one blade. Training, however, will. A staff weapon, on the other hand, has certian advantages over both, which is why it was so much more popular in tournament than the sword, and taught all the way up into the 19th century as a skill. Again, training is key. Given equally skilled opponents, it's a tossup. That being said, weilding a staff with two indredibly deadly blades that essentially have a circular edge would be absolute suicide, Force or not. Then again, as the above poster said, applying real world combat to fantasy is an excercise in sillyness. -
KOTOR2: Hottest Female Character

I had to go with Visas, but Mira was a very close second. She's got that rough attitude that I find so sexy. But Visas has the mystery grrl thing going on. -
I would guess that 100% of the people who bought this game are experiencing bugs. The reaction to that varies, but that's kind of irrelevant. Obsidian should put out a solid product. Imagine how amazing this game *could* have been had Obsidian been free to do what needed to be done.

Using a weapon in your left hand like you use one in your right hand takes a lot of practice. However, when you actually try a sword form that involves two weapons, that's not really how it works. The weapons work to compliment one another, alternately attacking and defending, etc etc. It takes a few weeks of semi-regular practice to become competant with the functioning of a 2-weapon style. Everything after that is just refinement. This is simply not the case. One arm *can* follow the other, but it doesn't have to, nor is it always wise for it to do so. In fact, putting both weapons in a single arch of roatation opens a person up to a deadly thrust from the oppisite angle in time with the cut. This is true to an extent. Many of the masters who taught the rapier and wrote their work down spoke about the need to accostom your left hand to sword work if you intended to use two weapons of generally equal length. But that honestly doesn't take too terrbily long. Practically speaking, a thrust is greater than a cut. And no matter what, unless a person is being taught by an idiot, the left hand weapon will *not* encumber the right hand. Er, yeah kinda? It's not really about seperate and independant though. That's a little too simplified. It's about understanding the job of each weapon and how to best achieve that goal. Well, they shouldn't be mimicing each other - that way lies folly. Outside of kata, in practical combat, you need to partition the duty of each weapon given your stance in relation to your opponent, his gaurd, etc.

Women weren't soldiers in the past? Heh. Tell that to Joan of Arc. Tell that to ...oh crap...what the hell is her name....an Irish woman who was a priate captain. Tell that to the many women who were captured in battle during the crusades. Seriously, the idea that women were never soldiers is simply untrue. anyway, I played the first game as a male, but I have now missed "choosing" my past on that twice. Anyone know which conversation it happens in spicifically? Ive never noticed it before.

I have been practicing western martial arts for over 7 years. Using a weapon in your offhand is not more difficult *per se* than using just a single weapon. You just have to make an effort to train some different footwork, distance, and timeing. That being said, I've always hated the RPG notion that an offensive weapon in your off hand somehow makes it harder to weild both of them. It's silly. An offhand penalty makes sense, as it takes a lot of training to get your non-dominant hand to be as efficient, fast, and accurate as your on-hand. But I have yet to feel encumbered by having a dagger or another sword in my left hand. that being said, I don't weild lightsabers The shorter the weapon in your off hand, the less you have to worry about getting crossed up. Eh. It's all preference. A dagger can kill you just as easily as a full length sword. It's just a matter of understanding some basic principles of combat. Wow. That was rambly.

Wow. Just wow. Awesome mix, there, by the way. Very very cool. C'mon Obsidian. Be our Heroes, will ya? Fix this ****
-
Fix the bugs. Now. That's all I ask. I want my 50 bucks worth, and I ain't got it yet. This franchise will get people to pay for it. Best to wait until the product is truly done before shipping it out. You will make your money - it's a great series, and I hope it continues. But the more you half-ass the product, the less people are going to be willing to pay for it.

Single saber, no matter the class. Old School, yo. I usually go with Violet, but I think im going to try silver as well. Im aslo fairly early on in the game, and so lightsabers are scarce. Currently , i have the one I built, and then V gets one in either hand, a short one and a long one. I think they are both green. At some point I want to get my other peeps trained, but im having some trouble developing their influence.

I'm pretty frustrated with the rampant bugs in the game. Love the dialogue, the graphics, and all the other wonderful things about it, but the bugs are *severely* distracting from game play. I miss entire conversations when the game just hammers through them. The Telos bug is just really silly from an immersion standpoint - you know, the one where the cops get stuck in your room while you're under house arrest? I bought this one sight-unseen because of how much fun the first one was. Here's for hoping that they give us a solid and speedy fix. I recognize those two things are often mutually exclusive.
