Monte Carlo Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 I posted this on the tech forum first but no replies, apologies for posting here. I am unable to play any BG2 so you can imagine the sense of urgency. I tried to uninstall BG2 / ToB from my PC. ToB uninstalled fine, but it didn't automatically roll on to uninstall BG2: SOA. Now when I try to do so I get the following message: Error extracting support files: Error loading type library / DLL What I am trying to do is completely remove BG2 to do a fresh, clean install with a load of new mods. Am installing from the old 4-disc set as opposed to the one disc DVD (I've got it somewhere I think). Any help greatly appreciated, many thanks in advance. Cheers MC
Gfted1 Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Hmmm, its just a shot in the dark but maybe you could re-install BG2 over top of the existing install and then try to uninstall again? "I'm your biggest fan, Ill follow you until you love me, Papa"
Monte Carlo Posted July 14, 2009 Author Posted July 14, 2009 ^ Yeah, I thought I'd put Disc One back in to see what would happen - it won't let me play, reinstall or uninstall. Hmmm. I suspect this might involve something I've heard of but never done: Going into the Registry... (cue dramatic Balalika music)
Monte Carlo Posted July 14, 2009 Author Posted July 14, 2009 Ha ha ha. So, technical games industry person, what do I do?
Morgoth Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Man, just delete the directory brutally. And then reinstall. Rain makes everything better.
Monte Carlo Posted July 14, 2009 Author Posted July 14, 2009 Man, just delete the directory brutally. And then reinstall. Brutal works for me. How do I do that? Ditto removal via config.
Gfted1 Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Careful with the brutal method, it does nothing for thr registry. Meaning, you may go in Explorer and just delete the entire folder but that doesnt necessarily mean it will reinstall as the registry will still think its there. Morgoth Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 There's a little practical tool called CCleaner that also deletes registries from failed uninstalls. Rain makes everything better.
Monte Carlo Posted July 14, 2009 Author Posted July 14, 2009 Configuration Panel > Programs > Remove Program That didn't work, unfortunately.
Monte Carlo Posted July 14, 2009 Author Posted July 14, 2009 How do I delete it manually from the registry?

Kelverin Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 How do I delete it manually from the registry? Use CCleaner. Second that! Priceless tool that all PC users need. J1 Visa Southern California Cleaning
Monte Carlo Posted July 14, 2009 Author Posted July 14, 2009 Thanks to everyone, esp. Morgoth. Went medieval on the directory then used CCleaner as suggested. A very easy-to-use tool, fixed the problem easily, plus it removed some of the dreck left behind (for some reason) by Crysis is the registry. See y'all on my new BG2 thread where I will be bugging you for more advice. Cheers MC
