Is there a way to hire the red-handed cannibal guy after you untie him in the ruin? Clearly it is meant to have the option, but I haven't figured a way to do it if there is one.

I don't think there is. You are clearly meant to be able to recruit him but there is no option to do so. For the beta your crew seems to be set up for the beta, though this time around you can hire two additional crew members in the port.

Yeah, I think they've disabled it for the beta for whatever reason
