I've always skipped soul mirror, so I don't know if they stack or not.  It only works on a complete "miss", which doesn't happen often (or ever, for tough enemies), and even then only triggers half of the time for usually insignificant return damage.  If enemies did miss all the time, then why do you need soul mirror?  You could just slowly kill them because they are weak.  If you have the shield, it seems even more useless since they are now effectively a zero threat.

The shield works 100% of the time for both grazes and misses. In other words, it includes a hidden +35 ranged deflection buff that stacks with everything.  It is sad that a class ability is so badly outclassed by a piece of equipment.  Soul Mirror suffers from the same problem as the rogue's Reposite and it would have been nice if it also worked with grazes.

That said, it would be interesting to know if they work together, as it would be fun for entertainment value against those annoying paralyzing dart throwers in White March.  Also, I wonder if a reflected "graze" counts as a "miss" for soul mirror. :)

The shield works for grazes only, while the talent works for 50% of the misses. They stack of course and it's a very strong combo for a monk (the guy who gives/drops this is actually a monk and you should avoid ranged attacks or directed spells against him...)

Erm, but why would you want to fight him? He will give it to you if you deliver the undamaged missive from the dying monk in Elmshore.

Anyways, that shield is the best item if you are annoyed by Lagufaeth. Even the Broodmothers fry themselves from time to time with their Cleansing Flames.

Thanks for the tip, those damn Lagufaeth are going to pay in my next play through (once I settle on a class).

By the way the wood elf racial not only provides bonus acc when fighting from a distance, it also gives you higher defenses against ranged attacks. Stacks with everything and works with the shield, too.

Besides the obvious high deflection classes like fighter, paladin and monk, a melee ranger with Alia Braccia can have +15 defense against ranged attacks and +15 against AoE attacks (stacks with everything) which, combined with the deflection and reflex bonus from the shield and gives him fairly high defenses against everything that doesn't hit him in melee. And those guys you can pulverize quickly with your animal companion.
