Hey, long time Obsidian fan here. Love the game but it destroys the battery life on my iPhone 5s (losing around 1 percent a minute) and generates a lot of heat, is this a common issue? 3d UE games don't even drain the battery as bad.

I'm having the exact same issue. Playing on a 5s as well. I haven't tried yet, but will play a bit with low power mode on the phone turned on to see if that helps and report back.

Loving the game, once I figured out how to play it!

Not sure that it's restricted to Apple devices, my Android tablet gets exceedingly hot when the game is loaded (it doesn't have to be active, I can put the tablet down with the game on a scenario screen and it still stays super-hot)

Try turning off "Effects" in Options --> Settings.  It will disable a bunch of minor animations that you've probably never even noticed.  I can't say it will help a lot, but it could still help.  The Unity Engine is also a tricky beast, and even though something may look flat and 2D, it doesn't mean the rendering core is treating objects much differently than if they were 3D.

Also, keep in mind that the game is pretty darn chatty from a networking perspective.  If you're not playing on WiFi, it is frequently firing up the cellular data connection.  It isn't a lot of data, but constant bursts from cell modem will always have a higher power draw than straight WiFi.  You could try playing offline, but then you'd lose out on gold.

Sorry, there isn't much better an answer.  I've got an iPhone 5s myself.  I'm a big fan of its rectangular slab form-factor, but sometimes the little quirks of my three year old phone make me want to throw it in a river.

I did try playing with the effects turned off, and it did help cut down the overheating. My battery was still draining pretty quickly, but I can live with that if its not frying my phone.

Thanks for the advice everyone, will try turning off effects.

Same issues, turning off effects doesn't help much. If I have my phone being charged by my comp while playing it still drains battery life.
