Slack83er Posted August 10, 2016 Author Posted August 10, 2016 Otherwise I still like the Death Godlikes ability. Well, godlikes can have any physique... so he can well be a towering Aumaua... hurting more the already wounded enemies is good imho... I'll think about it even if I find Godlikes a bit "weird" to say the least... I'm still between stilettos and hammers... seems like arquebus means lotta pain...but i only see this with a dwarf... y'know...hammers and rifle.... otherwise either stay Orlan or Elf perhaps... wood? - There are 10 types of people: those who understand binary code, and those who don't. -
Slack83er Posted August 10, 2016 Author Posted August 10, 2016 Yes, I figured that would be the combination... Arquebus plus hammer... but I see this only on a dwarf.... dunno why... maybe lore... If not elf, what else is good as a stiletto-wielder? Orlan surely is as you decided... does the critical hit also extend to ranged? - There are 10 types of people: those who understand binary code, and those who don't. -
Slack83er Posted August 10, 2016 Author Posted August 10, 2016 It doesn't specify that it must be a melee attack... wiki only states that the bonus activates once you attack a target already attacked by a mate... so I guess it should work... Tomorrow I will finally get my free day from work, and I'm gonna try both the builds, mountain dwarf (resistances venom & disease) plus arquebus and hammer, and continue the orlan one that I already started... Then I'll follow the guys' advice and bring them a little onward, we'll see which one appeals to me the most. Anyway ben, you rock. You gave me the idea that I was looking for! - There are 10 types of people: those who understand binary code, and those who don't. -
Slack83er Posted August 10, 2016 Author Posted August 10, 2016 The rogue paladin AS WELL AS the starting stats which enable hi social interaction without hampering combat! As for the acc... everyone seem to think that situational bonuses are worth less than persistent.... so here's my choice... i don't know how many primordial/wilder enemies I will face.. - There are 10 types of people: those who understand binary code, and those who don't. -

Slack83er Posted August 11, 2016 Author Posted August 11, 2016 An island Aumaua with pirate background would grant a 3rd weapon slot as well as be suitable with the bg.... hmmm.... *mumbling instead of working* - There are 10 types of people: those who understand binary code, and those who don't. -
Slack83er Posted August 11, 2016 Author Posted August 11, 2016 little question: is the rogue the only one that can sneak attack? - There are 10 types of people: those who understand binary code, and those who don't. -
Loren Tyr Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 Orlan surely is as you decided... does the critical hit also extend to ranged? It does.
Loren Tyr Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 (edited) little question: is the rogue the only one that can sneak attack? The White March adds a talent for non-rogues that gives them a small sneak attack. It's just +15% damage vs +50% for the Rogue though. There are also some weapons that give a sort-of sneak attack (extra damage vs proned, stunned and paralyzed I think), as well as (at least one) that actually does a +25% damage sneak attack. Those still work best with the Rogue of course, though. Edit: I forgot, Skaen Priests also have a talent that gives +20% Sneak Attack damage (and +10 ACC with Stilettos and Clubs). So with the Apprentice's Sneak Attack they can get +35% Sneak Attack damage (at the cost of two talents, though). Edited August 11, 2016 by Loren Tyr
Slack83er Posted August 11, 2016 Author Posted August 11, 2016 (edited) Nono, no intention of making a rogue... not my style of play, too squishy and micro thanks... Shall I also take 2handed style as a talent? Edited August 11, 2016 by Slack83er - There are 10 types of people: those who understand binary code, and those who don't. -
Slack83er Posted August 11, 2016 Author Posted August 11, 2016 Ok, then. What do you think of the pirate aumaua I said before? - There are 10 types of people: those who understand binary code, and those who don't. -
Slack83er Posted August 11, 2016 Author Posted August 11, 2016 Stilettos and blunderbuss ofc! He's a pirate! - There are 10 types of people: those who understand binary code, and those who don't. -
Abel Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 (edited) Yeah, shields are good, great even. My point was just that these items will make a character tankier but do less damage. General Pillars of Eternity knowledge that is different than previous similar games, such as Icewind Dale or Baldur's Gate. In those games you would always wear the heaviest armor, in this game the decision is more complex. If you came into this game with preconceptions from similar games, you might make wrong decisions, that's why it's important to play this game to learn about it. @Slack83er The story does not advance much from the prologue to the beginning of act 2, after that it starts to pick up speed. I'm just telling you this so you know. If you ignore the main story a bit after you finish Caed Nua, doing side quests around Gilded Vale or Defiance bay, you can quickly reach level 6 without spoiling it much. That might give you a better feel for the game and it's classes. Well, when I first started this game I remade my monk half a dozen times before I was happy, so I'm not really one to talk. I see your point and i will definitely agree with you Yep, that's why i said lvl 6/8. I guess leveling further before starting over would indeed spoil a bit too much Defiance Bay. Leveling is fast. maybe a bit too much. Lvl 6 is not this big a deal to reach actually. I agree with you that it may be usefull to do so, since there is a learning curve in the game. I started over twice too. II feel like not starting over is hard, and thus, i understand quite well why our beloved noob is struggling to figure things out beforehand. EDIT: @Slack83er don't forget to give us your impression about the game once you're getting started . We (or, at least, me) are curious now . Anyway, have fun. Edited August 11, 2016 by Abel 1
Slack83er Posted August 11, 2016 Author Posted August 11, 2016 Goldpact I was thinking... or Bleak Walkers? - There are 10 types of people: those who understand binary code, and those who don't. -
Boeroer Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 (edited) You will have to use aggressive and cruel answers a lot with a Bleak Walker. Keep that in mind. The additional corrosive lash talent for FoD is ok. With the rigjt weapon it can add a lot of damage. And if you find the sabre Bittercut in Russetwood/WM, you'll have one of the best weapons in the game (in my opinion). You can even take Scion of Flame AND Spirit of Decay then. Take a look into my monk build "Monksterlasher" why. Also works with a piratesque Bleak Walker. Edited August 11, 2016 by Boeroer Deadfire Community Patch: Nexus Mods
Slack83er Posted August 11, 2016 Author Posted August 11, 2016 (edited) Mm I've been looking a bit on the wiki, it seems like goldpact has the best lore after all. I wasn't thinking about behavior but maybe bleak walkers sounds too harsh for me... Later I will be trying the solutions we spoke of yesterday evening, and let you know! P.s. Boeroer, which dwarf better suits my mc? See some posts before, around 78... Boeroer Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 (edited) Concerning dwarves: boreal dwarf for an offensive approach, mountain dwarf for a defensive one. Some people say that the racial feat of mountain dwarves is weak, but I don't think so. Actually there are a lot of enemies who use attacks that are either disease or poison. Those attacks (like poison clouds of iron constructs, attacks of several other vessels, oozes' ranged attacks, wood beetle poison and so on, several corrode and raw damage spells) can be pretty nasty. It's a good thing to have higher defenses against them. Having +15 ACC against primordial and wilder foes is also nice. Some of the toughest mobs are wilder/primordial (ogres, lagufaeth, adragans, delemgans and so on). Lore wise I think that hammers belong to mountain dwarves. Edited August 11, 2016 by Boeroer Deadfire Community Patch: Nexus Mods
Loren Tyr Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 If anything, the warhammer would probably be more a Human weapon I'd say. Though of the two, it's definitely more a Mountain Dwarf weapon; Boreal Dwarves are more hunter-y types, and that's not really what hammers are made for.
Slack83er Posted August 11, 2016 Author Posted August 11, 2016 Hi there, I began playing with the aumaua. It's just I didn't have much time, and I didn't try anything past the prologue. He's quite strong, physically impressive, but sadly there's no option to make him a pirate without sacrificing something in term of ability scores. I had to make him come from the White and make him an explorer. While chatting with Calisca, he states that he was a seaman, and his ship was attacked BY pirates... quite the opposite of what I wanted lore-wise. I shall study the background a little more.. - There are 10 types of people: those who understand binary code, and those who don't. -
Loren Tyr Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 If you want a pirate-y background you need Deadfire Archipelago. I wouldn't worry too much about the missed +1 MIG, you can still go for 20 with the Aumaua. Though in terms of flavour the Bleakwalker does seem to fit it more than the Goldpact Knight (you can get a nice fearsome pirate thing going with Black Path as well). Add in a cutlass sabre and some pistols, Robert Newton accent, eyepatch... (there genuinely is an eyepatch you can get, by the way).
Boeroer Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 (edited) Deadfire Archipelago = pirates. The barb companion you can have is also from there - and guess what: she used to be a raider (aka pirates who pillage on land ). For a pirate you should use Deadfire Archipelago and raider. Since you don't want to minmax anyway, the bonus point from culture doesn't really matter. By the way - later on you can get headgear that looks like a pirate's headscarf. It gives you +2 survival which is not too bad there's better headgear, but +2 survival can be really handy to reach certain levels of camping bonuses (for example bonus healing or ACC bonus) earlier in the game and with less skill points. If you want how it looks like, take a peak into the build "The Immortal Martyr" in the list. He wears that headscarf thing. Edited August 12, 2016 by Boeroer Deadfire Community Patch: Nexus Mods
Slack83er Posted August 12, 2016 Author Posted August 12, 2016 (edited) (you can get a nice fearsome pirate thing going with Black Path as well). Hi Loren, explain.... is black path a quest? EDIT: sorry loren, seen the talent... seems rather strong... and even corrode damage looks good... Back on BG: Being not an Orlan will get me a maximum of 18 PER... i don't think that will be a problem, right? I'll stay with double stilettos and blunderbuss anyway, I like this flavor... Slack83er Posted August 12, 2016 Author Posted August 12, 2016 Plan is as follows: island aumaua, raider bg, deadfire archipelago, two stilettos, one blunderbuss, maybe pistol. Pirate background, probably bleak walkers. I'll try to play a real bada** pirate, see what comes around. He has a solid story, and stats-wise he is ok, should work. Ofc, if this is the case, Ben, you'll be credited for it.. 1 - There are 10 types of people: those who understand binary code, and those who don't. -
Slack83er Posted August 12, 2016 Author Posted August 12, 2016 (edited) Hi all, time to update: I tried the pirate. It's everything ok, except that I can't really play Bleak Walkers. They're too cruel to upkeep with the conversation options.. I'll take Goldpact. I moved until the zone to the southeast of Gilded Vale, but died there to 4 wolves together. I only took Aloth, so Eder was missing... that might be the reason. I was carrying a hammer and a rapier. No sign of a Stiletto or blunderbuss, except the stiletto in the forge which sells for 2k-something, that I didn't have. Suggestions (except picking Eder, I know)? EDIT: no dwarf. I continue to dislike this race aesthetically in PoE. Sorry. So it's either Aumaua (pirate) or Orlan (don't know which bg to take) Edited August 12, 2016 by Slack83er - There are 10 types of people: those who understand binary code, and those who don't. -
