BruceVC
South Africa is playing Wales next, we are very confidant and our team is back on form so bring it on "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely: and pined his loss” John Milton "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. BruceVC
Okay huge game today for South Africa, we wont underestimate Wales but we should win I am watching at a very festive spot at a casino, its called a Bok Village, food and loads of alcohol will be flowing http://www.absaboktown.co.za/Venues/Silverstar-Casino.aspx "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely: and pined his loss” John Milton "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. Guard Dog
New Zealand gets a shot at some payback on France today. Ireland should have no trouble with Argentina. There were the 2nd place team of a weak pool. Australia & Scotland and RSF & Wales are interesting matches. Zoraptor
Australia should beat Scotland handily, though Aus weren't exactly stellar against the patched together Welsh and the Scots are one of the few teams actually playing near their potential. RSA should beat Wales as well, would be near 50/50 or slightly to Wales if Wales weren't so badly effected by injury, but they are and in crucial positions. Wouldn't be surprised if Argentina upset Ireland though Ireland would be favourites, Argentina are limited in attack but they also have few weaknesses. ABs should beat France though neither team in that match up has been playing well lately. It's a worse French team than in either 1999 or 2007, but they've got a pretty good chance if the ABs keep playing like they've stuck in 2nd gear for 60 minutes a game, keep dropping the ball and giving away idiotic penalties and yellow cards from players who should know better like Read and McCaw. Guard Dog
I thought the All Blacks only choked in the championship game? BruceVC
I thought the All Blacks only choked in the championship game? The All Blacks are definitely the favorites and its well deserved but they can be beaten "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely: and pined his loss” John Milton "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. Zoraptor
I thought the All Blacks only choked in the championship game? Heh, we've only lost one final, in 1995- in the other ones we didn't even make the final to choke there. Ironically the French are probably the biggest final chokers since they've lost three and won none. Doesn't look like we'll choke this time but then again it didn't look like we would in 1999 either. Bit of a shame for Wales in the first match, especially given their injuries and that they were leading with only five minutes to go.
Guard Dog
Well the World Cup will be south of the equator. Watch Argentina go on and stun the world! BruceVC
Well the World Cup will be south of the equator. Watch Argentina go on and stun the world! Funny enough I was listening to some Rugby journalists commenting how its the first time in ages its been a Southern hemisphere semi-Final only This is not good for Rugby development as you want a mix of teams from both hemispheres in the interests of broadcaster revenue and ensuring decent sponsorship...in other words there is less global interest if its only Southern hemisphere teams "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely: and pined his loss” John Milton "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. Zoraptor
It's the first time ever it's been all southern hemisphere. Probably shouldn't have been given the admission that the final penalty in the Aus v Scotland game was incorrectly awarded but results are results. Shame really, an Argentina/ Scotland semi would have been a pretty cool result.

Shame really, an Argentina/ Scotland semi would have been a pretty cool result. Yeah....that Scotland game and that penalty decision was harsh and now we know was the wrong decision. But sometimes thats how the game goes..but now the big one, NZ vs SA I would be foolish to say I don't think NZ are the favorites, you guys are like this unstoppable Rugby juggernaut But many factors can influence a game at this level. Like pressure and the expectation that " team x must win...how can they not win " So of course we are all very much behind SA for Saturday. I also want to add that after our disastrous lose to Japan we have already recovered our pride so to lose to NZ will not be a disgrace ( and I'm not assuming we will lose, I am just being realistic ) "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely: and pined his loss” John Milton "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. BruceVC
Wow what a game, SA lost 18-20 to NZ but that was Rugby..that was a game None of my friends and family share my sentiment as all they can see is " we lost " but for the first time in the WC we put NZ under real pressure, they missed penalties and the whole game had the right balance of tension where you really not sure who might win Bu well done NZ All we needed was one more penalty and we would won And to add to the overall festivities I had a attractive lady sit next to me randomly, as we watched at a packed sports bar, and her and I hit it off and we meeting up tonight at a club to drown our sorrows with LOADS of alcohol "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely: and pined his loss” John Milton "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. Guard Dog
Australia vs New Zealand in the finals. Nothing like a rivalry match to settle the whole thing. Guard Dog
At least the Boks are bringing home some hardware. Even if it is the consolation prize. 1 "While it is true you learn with age, the down side is what you often learn is what a damn fool you were before" Thomas Sowell
BruceVC
At least the Boks are bringing home some hardware. Even if it is the consolation prize. Yeah I'm happy, I think the Boks did very well .....they recovered after Japan and that was very important for the overall morale of white South Africans who follow Rugby "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely: and pined his loss” John Milton "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. Guard Dog
In case anyone other than Bruce, Zorpator or myself were wondering, the All Blacks won it all. Which only makes sense because they were the best team and second wasn't close. Zoraptor
Yeah, a good send off for all the retiring players, the Aussies tried hard but it was quite one sided except for the brief period when Ben Smith got himself sinbinned. We'll probably get Sir Richard McCaw on 1/1/16, if he accepts it. An excellent tournament overall too, the Japan vs RSA game and performance of some of the less fancied teams (Georgia, Scotland as well as Japan) brought a good deal of interest and most games were entertaining. Guard Dog
Except for team USA. They just embarrassed themselves except for the first half against Scotland. Zoraptor
I'd say that's a case of the other teams improving rather than the US team going backwards, at least. What teams like the US really need are regular play and a good national administration, ironically because the US is so big both are pretty difficult to implement on a low budget in contrast to somewhere smaller like Georgia and there isn't the 'national will' for want of a better term to just throw money at improvement as there is in Japan. Guard Dog
It doesn't help that the sport isn't really followed here. In the US pantheon of team sports Rugby ranks after volleyball and ahead of badminton. Not one match was on TV other than PPV (that's how I saw it). Of course there really are no teams or leagues to watch. The NCAA doesn't play it. The only Rugby leagues are amateur club teams. That's how I got into it. I played on an amateur team in Plantation Florida back in '96. But the Olympics is a big deal here and if Rugby Sevens is getting into the games it will help.
