This build is adapted for 1.05 and the lower starting focus.

Role:  Offtank/DPS

-You still have all the other cipher goodies, but the micro actually comes from moving around than anything.

Race: Moon = Fire Godlike > Wild Orlan = Human

-You'll eat some disengagement attacks here and there so having an endurance heal is good.  Fire Godlike can also be decent, but Moon is much more forgiving as you run around the battlefield.  Fire does give you retaliate focus which is better for mid game.

Powers:

Antipathetic Field + whatever else.  Probably Ectopsychic Echo for the theme, but you are still a cipher in the end with other powers.

Stats:

Dex > Res > Mig > Int > Per  > Con

-Besides the typical higher deflection, flavor to preference.  Oddly, Grieving Mother can also do this build.

-Int is kept relatively high for other effects, but doesn't help the 6 second duration of Antipathetic field for the damage portion

-Dex can be dumped for the heavier armor setup, etc, but for the growing pains I like having faster casting at the beginning.

Talents:

Fast Runner, optional:  Weapon/Shield style, Wound binding (for health heals).

Gear:

Hatchet/small shield, heaviest armor.  Optional:  Disengage cloak.

Playstyle:

Target a back row enemy with the Antipathetic Field, then if not engaged, run around so the beam hits everyone.  If you are engaged though, you can sort of circle click around them to rotate your beam... Or if you're bored, just eat the disengage attacks and go crazy.

Why is this better than ranged cipher?

-Talents necessary to realize this build is done at lvl 4, focus gaining is sort of a non issue.

-By the time you outgrow Anitpathetic field, you have all the other cipher goodies

-Sometimes, you get lazy... cast, shift click move them around the battle area... and still profit for extreme damage.

-Sometimes, you wanna have an offtank, this provides a relatively decent one for the early game, and late game, its just about the aoe/cc/damage.

I'd be more worried about outgrowing Ectopsychic Echo, which targets Fortitude. Antipathetic Field is against Reflex, and deals Corrode. Most tough enemies have great Fortitude but poor Reflex. With fortitude attacks being as common in this game, I'd be surprised to ever see a big baddie with low Fortitude. I believe banshees have over 100 for some reason...

Well, with the release of the beta I rolled a Cypher that is anything but yours and still a kickass character. Has the highest damage output and the highest individual kill rate. Knocked out only once, although she's wearing simply cloth, and that because of the crappy path finding.

I haven't all the stats present right now, but I dumped resolve totally. It's down to 3. The loss in will is more than made up by other stats and by some gear that can be easily found or purchased early on. I also dumped perception just a little bit, since there are other interrupt guys in my party. Instead the important skills are maxed. Might, Dexterity for speed and Intelligence for effect.

She's mostly a ranged character, first with a bow then with one of the better pistols you are awarded during the game. So I have chosen the gunner skill early on. I also use mind blades as an opener in most cases, since it's a good spell to soften hordes of enemies at once.

I guess, there are many builds for personal tastes that do the job nicely and not the perfect build that conquers them all.

I know this is an old post, but assuming it still works the same in 1.0.6, can someone please explain what is meant by circle clicking around them to rotate your beam when you are engaged?

I haven't been able to pull off Antipathetic Field very often solo because enemies typically swarm me. Any tips? Do you guys rely on speed gear/potions?

Also, I read somewhere (I forget where) about forcing disengagement attacks while doing this. How do you force disengagement attacks, as opposed to eating them yourself?

You've got to use door cheese or similar to line up enemies.

If theres no door, you can line them up by standing next to a wall, but you need the right positioning you'll learn that soon though.

This probably won't work in 2.0 because of A.I. changes.
