April 4, 201510 yr With the new patch even deleting the saves, and the Unity preferences doesn't prevent crashing on save / map change.
April 4, 201510 yr Same here, crashes on every save since the 1.03 patch, for both quick and auto saves. Macbook Pro 13 running 10.10.3.
April 4, 201510 yr Having the same issue with my MacBook, which is less than a year old. Crashes on save every. single. time. This is getting very annoying. Like others, the game works fine on my new iMac 5K desktop. VulpineOne
April 4, 201510 yr The same thing happens to me. Before patch 1.03 game crash occasionally when tried to save. Now (but not immediately after install patch) game started crash when I try save game or go to another location.Game version: v1.0.3.0526 -steamOS: Yosemite 10.10.2Hardware: MacBook Pro, 2,4 GHz Intel Core i5, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Intel Iris 1536 MB
April 5, 201510 yr Same Problem here. Playing with a Macbook Air 11" (Mid 2013). The game runs in steam. First I had the problem only from time to time. Now, after playing 20-30 hours and after installing patch 1.03 it occurs every time I am venturing forth. It's nearly unplayable. Dear support, please help!
April 5, 201510 yr I also reported this issue in another thread, but this seems to have gained more traction, so I'll write here too. It's like the game can't initialize correctly at times, and then it crashes if you save or enter a new area. But sometimes everything works fine, and I can play for hours without a hitch.
April 5, 201510 yr I had permanent situation when all save attempts or transitions between location ends with crash. Then I chose to run game in window mode, and game stop crashing even when I returned to full screen mode. Probably it not resolve problem permanently, but at least give me possibility to play.
April 5, 201510 yr It's so weird. I could play for several hours this morning without a hitch, but now it crashes whatever I do! I've restarted about 6-7 times and as soon as I enter a new area or try to save it crashes to desktop.
April 6, 201510 yr Dunno if this really helped or if I was just lucky. The following was successful four times in my case and maybe it helps you too: After a crash I restarted the game and exited it directly from main menu without continuing a previous game or starting a new one. Back to the desktop I restart the game again and continue my safe game. As a result I am able to play some hours without a crash.
April 7, 201510 yr This seems to fix the problem somehow: Switch the game to the "Windowed Mode" (Options => Graphics => uncheck Full Screen; you might also need to change the screen resolution) (The game now runs inside a window, not full screen) Save your game (The game should not crash now...) Switch back to Full Screen You should be able to save without crashes now I did not test whether this works over a longer period of time, however
April 7, 201510 yr Oddly (given screen resolution seems a pretty unrelated factor), that does appear to work.

April 7, 201510 yr Have/Had the same problem. After some hours into the game it would start crashing when trying to safe or load another screen/ map. My workaround: – Set the game into window mode (CMD + F). – Enter another area so that the game is forced to load. – While on the loadscreen switch to another application, like Safari – Wait about 10seconds and switch back to PoE After this everything works fine as long as PoE keeps running in window mode. When restarting the game or switching back to fullscreen I get the same problems again. Sounds crude? I think so too but at least it works for me. Got the same crash report, something about the GPU. Also when I repair my disk permissions after a crash of PoE I get the following: Permissions differ on “private/var/db/GPURestartReporter”; should be drwxr-xr-x ; they are drwxrwx--- . User differs on “private/var/db/displaypolicyd”; should be 0; user is 244. So if this bug has something to do with the GPU crashing, switching windows in order to release the GPU from its duty on PoE doesn't sound soo unrelated anymore..? Idk.. :D MBPr late 2013, i5 2,4Ghz, 8GB RAM, Intel Iris Hope it helps you guys Edited April 7, 201510 yr by SuperMax
April 11, 201510 yr After som additional testing...Playing in Windowed mode works for me. I sill get the errors some times, but it doesn't crash the game. I just close the pop-up and continue playing.

Just like you say, if I switch back to fullscreen it goes right back to crashing on save / transition.
April 12, 201510 yr Any update from the devs on this issue? It's pretty damn annoying. Right now I can't play the game at all, every time I save it crashes. But then sometimes on the fifth or eight restart, everything works.

But then sometimes on the fifth or eight restart, everything works. I haven't seen this bug acknowledged anywhere. I'd guess they're fixing cross-platform and Windows bugs first, but I hope OSX doesn't get forgotten entirely.
April 14, 201510 yr +1 Exiting fullscreen seems to have (at least temporarily) resolved the issue. Same exact problem as listed above.
April 15, 201510 yr Yeah, it seems that exiting full screen works. But I want to play in full screen Hear, hear.
April 16, 201510 yr I have had this problem on and off for a while, the latest fix I have tried is to simply turn the graphics down to the lowest setting, since then (2 hours or so of playtime) the problem has disappeared. Hopefully this helps you guys!
April 16, 201510 yr Hey guys, Just wanted to update you we have this OSX-save bug log internally and I have updated the report to include this thread. Thank you for including your crash reports and player logs. Got a bug ?? Help us squish it! In your report Include your *save file* (C:\Users\YourNameHere\Saved Games\Pillars of Eternity) and ... PC: *output_log.txt* (In your PillarsOfEternity_Data folder) Mac/Linux: *Player.log* (In your Unity folder) Thank you for your help!
April 19, 201510 yr FYI, turning the graphics quality dial all the way down seemed to fix the problem for me. Just played for 4 hours saving every 10 minutes or so with no crashes.
