I think it's an error. 
Game looks better without it checked by default (green circles etc...)

Probably left over/not adjusted for beta build.

 

Both Tim Cain and Josh Sawyer are colorblind.

 

Thats why it was on.

Definitely should be off by default, think we got several threads regarding the games lack of contrast because of this.
