How do you fight them?  I was only able to break down the boulder and have them think I turned on the humans to help them.  No place to fight them, though.

Yeah, thats what I saw as well.  You hear a group of them chanting and 1 drumming on those drums.  There has to be more involving them.

I think the Crab People may have been cut from the game. Usually when I encounter them, I friended them. I don't recall if hitting them forced them into a fight, but I'm fairly certain it did not. Looking back at the original Game Informer magazine, from 2012, it appears there was a "rough concept" for a Gnome/Crab D.M.Z. area. Other such concepts also didn't make it into the game.

Judging by old trailers and screenshots, quite a lot was either cut or outright remade for some reason (Randy taught the new kid the nagasaki fart in an old trailer).

 

We can't even beat up hippies in this game! That's practically a travesty.

I was only able to friend the crab guy banging on the drum, as well as loot that chest for crab armor.  No option to fight them.

Well, they're not in the current game. But there's always the chance of DLC for another adventure!
