samm
Sooo for all those who thought the Radeon 290X was not nVidia enough, there's now an option to surpass Titan performance without switching the brand. The price is still not AMD-good, but better than Titan. Also, it's basically a fully unlocked Titan, probably shaming all the pround Titan-owners for their overpriced purchase So, times for us hardware fans have improved a little on the price side of things Anyone investing in a 780 Ti? Bokishi
Probably next year, since I already have an XBone on order. It should have 6 gigs vram like the titan to truly beat it. Extra memory helps with 4K+ resolutions. 1 Current 3DMark
Humanoid
Pricing at the usual halo card level, but yeah, disappointed that they didn't release a 6GB version. 3GB at $599 and 6GB for $100-150 more would have made some real options rather than preserving the status quo. I mean it's only $100 less than *two* 290s. L I E S T R O N GL I V E W R O N G
samm
Why am I not surprised Bokishi Yes, for this amount of money and especially when intending to go SLI for 4K, it should have more RAM. Probably has something to do with introducing 6GB versions at a higher price point or keeping Titan buyers with at least one thing that still feels premium about there cards, other than price. LadyCrimson
So looking at fps marks for 4k runs of this (and other cards), I see that they don't fare all that well (solo, not sli'd, I mean). This card gets around 55fps, which is actually ok, but most cards below it are dropping to the 40's or even 30's. Be a while before lower/mid-price cards get there, I guess, eh? Not that I'm personally planning on a 4k monitor any time soon ... but it's interesting. 50ish fps is fine, but I wouldn't want to go back to 30fps. And I'm not sure I want to spend $700+ again, either. At least not with the whole 4k thing on the horizon. “Things are as they are. Humanoid
All the affordable 4K displays are still running at 30Hz anyway. It's borderline deceptive marketing, and frankly I think they shouldn't exist. L I E S T R O N GL I V E W R O N G
LadyCrimson
I was mostly thinking I might want a new GPU...the 590 is still great but it's kinda reaching that point where my "want a nice fps buffer" speed-freak nature might want more powah. Especially when a game doesn't utilize both the 590's cores. The fps mark drops at even 2540x1440 still worry me. Although those are usually tested with AA really high I guess, which I wouldn't do. Edit: Oops...it's even worse, I was mistaking the 2540 marks list for the 4k ones... haha. Yeah...no. “Things are as they are. Bokishi
I was this close to pulling the trigger on a 4k monitor that had a good deal. But the 30hz really killed it for me, as I envisioned choosing between lots of vsync lag, or epic screen-tearing, so no Current 3DMark
Archmage Silver
Yep, I'm still waiting for those 60Hz (or 120Hz... what, a man can dream!) 4K monitors as well. Only after those become available will I start to consider the higher end cards. Until then OCed mid-to-mid-high-end cards, possibly with unlockable extra shaders, will work fine with my 1920x1200 resolution Dell U2412M. Keyrock
Even when the 60Hz 4k monitors arrive, they will definitely be out of my price range. I'm much to poor to be dropping anything approaching a grand for a monitor. 1440p, on the other hand, is right up my alley. I'm hoping that by the time I build my next rig (at least 4 months from now, though I may hold off longer for Broadwell) 1440p monitors will hopefully drop into the $300 zone (the cheapest seem to be about $340 right now). Were I building this rig now, I would definitely consider the 780Ti. That card has enough juice so that I could play most anything at 1440p with plenty of eye candy. The 3GB of vRAM might struggle a bit with high levels of AA, but I never go past 4X MSAA anyway as my eyes frankly can't tell the difference beyond 4X MSAA. Hopefully all this is a moot point and the 20nm Maxwell cards are out by the time I build my rig. LadyCrimson
I don't think I'll be getting a 4k monitor anytime soon either. Certainly not going to plan my next PC around one. Maybe the PC after that. The higher the resolution the less one cares about AA at all, really ... but I do love my AF, at least in some games. My current issue is whether (for my needs) I could really just get away with a new GPU/monitor and put off a new PC altogether for still a few years. Since I don't play super demanding games that much my 1st gen i7 still seems all right and it's mostly about more vram/gpu performance and hi-res monitors. Or something. Can't decide. “Things are as they are.
