Walsingham Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-22168202 I know we often talk about Iran as a nuclear tipped fruitbat nightmare. HOWEVER, a disaster like this is pure humanity vs Mother Nature in my book. Dozens may have died, and thousands willl have have had their homes wrecked. A no brainer to say thoughts with them, really. But I figured it'd do no harm to say it. "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. LadyCrimson Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Ugh...earthquakes. I know a little about them since I'm in Calif. We can grow to be blase about all the little tremors but it's always something in the back of your head. And a 7.8 too. Hopefully the casualties will remain low as they figure things out. “Things are as they are. Looking out into the universe at night, we make no comparisons between right and wrong stars, nor between well and badly arranged constellations.” – Alan Watts
Gorth Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Hasn't Iran been hit by some of the most devastating earthquakes in recent history (last couple of decades)? A combination of little consideration in building construction and sometimes striking remote towns/cities combined with inclement weather. Earthquakes are not on my list of things that I miss from New Zealand. Wouldn't want to live Los Angeles for the same reason (like Wellington, the next big one is not a question of 'if' but of 'when') “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would surely suffice.” - Albert Einstein
TrashMan Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 [conspiracy mode on] Must be the Amuricans and their earthquake generator [conspiracy mode off] On a more serious note, disasters like this always put into perspective just how fragile we are. * YOU ARE A WRONGULARITY FROM WHICH NO RIGHT CAN ESCAPE! *Chuck Norris was wrong once - He thought HE made a mistake!

Zoraptor Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Hasn't Iran been hit by some of the most devastating earthquakes in recent history (last couple of decades)? The Bam (which is an awesome name for a city) quake killed tens of thousands, and ruined a rather nice mud brick castle rather badly. I think only Haiti or Sumatra (indirectly) in the last decade or so were definitely worse in terms of casualties.

I bet somewhere someone was really pleased with that alteration. Arsehole. "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe.
