Reddie Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 I haven't found this information in Kickstarter page or GameBanshee interview. Sorry if I overlooked it. Kickstarter page mentions several times that Project Eternity will be released on Steam and that digital editions - rewards for some level of pledge - will be redeemable on Steam. My question is: will this game use exclusively Steamworks, the DRM associated with Steam, as well? I ask because I am in this minority of people who don't want to have anything to do with Steam and their model of giving customer a "license subscribtion" instead of an actual product they pay for. Having Project Eternity use Steamworks mean that this game will be tied to Steam and it won't be possible to play it without logon to a valid Steam account. Please refrain from discussing the merits of Steam in this topic I don't mean to start an anti-Steam topic here, I only want to get an answer to my question. Hopefully this will catch attention of someone in Obsidian.
Carmelle Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 From FAQ: How will I get my digital copy of the game? We are still exploring the idea of offering number of options, but one of those is definitely going to be Steam. Looks like other options will probably be available.
Reddie Posted September 15, 2012 Author Posted September 15, 2012 I undersand this means there will be multiple places to buy the game. But this doesn't rule out the question of DRM. I.e. there may be only Steam-redeemable keys available.
Margaretha Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 Yes, the question is important. Even from the simple perspective that crowd-funding ressources would be used to develop a feature that is player-hostile by definition.
Mamoulian War Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 Yes indeed very important question for me as well. Considering to pledge 140$, but without answer to this question I am affraid to invest so much money, for something I will not have 100% under my control... For me, if the boxed collector's copy will be confirmed as DRM free, is enough to overcome my fears. Sent from my Stone Tablet, using Chisel-a-Talk 2000BC. Ieo Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 Here's the other thread about DRM: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/59936-drm-free/ The KS Collector's Edition does not include the Collector's Book. Which game hook brought you to Project Eternity and interests you the most? PE will not have co-op/multiplayer, console, or tablet support (sources): [0] [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] Write your own romance mods because there won't be any in PE. "But what is an evil?
