Matt MacLean

I make computer/video games. My particular expertise rests in annoying artists and programmers with demands and requests that interfere with their ability to spend the day on the beach. I spend a lot of time thinking about accessibility, learning curves, attention spans, reward psychology, and mathematical models of injury.

Specialties

Systems design. Writing. Being a cranky old man. Spreadsheet Mastery +5.

Matt MacLean's Experience

Lead Designer

Obsidian Entertainment

January 2006

The really important question is: does he still have the beard?

He really has a strange approach to "reward psychology"

Jesus, how many plates is Obsidz spinning right now? Is MacLean replacing someone else?

Not that I'm complaining, mind. Matt deserves it. And his ideas around the design of Alpha Protocol were really, really exciting. Hopefully he brings some of that vision to whatever it is he's working on.

Three. Pretty much Obsidian's usual number of projects at a time.

Though, usually we have an announcement to go with it. Currently there is no actual Obsidian project announced. (If you don't count WOT which isn't really Obsidian)

I honestly doubt WOT will ever get published (or even developed) so I sure hope Obsidian signed an advantageous deal and got a little money squeezed out of it anyway.

As for the announcement, eh, better this way than another fiasco of the proportions of the Aliens-Alpha Protocol couple.

P.S. : I believe one project is an XBLA game anyway? That shouldn't require the same stuff size as an AA project.

Aye, Sega was way too anxious to announce the games. These days publishers announce the games when the game is coming out in 6 to 12 months. With indie games it's even shorter period of time. The thing is we don't really know how Obsidian would develop these indie games. They might have only few staffers on it full time, while most just do few things on it while mostly focusing on the bigger projects. Either way XBLA games don't require as much workforce as AA projects do.

That said, I hope the XBLA game Obsidian is working is something like the King of Dragon Pass.
