Walsingham Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Wheeeeeeeee! The merry go round spins again. Bets on which talentless halfwit the govt. is going to saddle the MoD with now? Is it so much to ask that the Armed Forces get to keep a defence secretary for more than a year or so? It may have escaped everyone's notice, but WE ARE AT WAR. I don't give a rat's proverbial if Fox was boning Adam Werrity on the cenotaph, wrapped in tax-payer funded union jacks. Someone needs to be in charge of the huge budget cuts and big buying programs. Someone needs to be clarifying the policy on Afghanistan. I might even imagine a world where someone was worrying about the tens of thousands of servicemen becoming jobless! "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. RIP Hades/Sand/etc. Here's hoping your next alt has a harp.

Walsingham Posted October 14, 2011 Author Posted October 14, 2011 Not to my understanding. He basically was mates with a guy who was a sellout t***. Got taken advantage of. Not a good thing. May have affected defence policy. However, so far Fox's defence policy has been to try and stand up for the Forces, get out to where we're fighting, and get a grip on the situation. If that's corruption I'd like to see a few more ministers get corrupted! I note that Chris Huhne is still in office despite being an energy minister who is against the government's energy policy, and who grasses up his colleagues. I may not know many politicos, but who exactly is going to replace Fox? Hague? "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Gorth Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 Is it so much to ask that the Armed Forces get to keep a defence secretary for more than a year or so? Maybe he didn't want to go down in history as the first defence secretary to lose a war to Argentina over the Falklands? You guys sold off your navy and such at some point in time, didn't you? “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. Well, as I said before that really depends on the USA. I don't think anyone can say for sure who Obama/Clinton would back if the Argentine _government_ invaded. I stress government because I fidn it hard to believe that the normal people of Argentina woudl want t ogo to war over a scrap of land where the inhabitants freely vote to be British. I've noticed the Obama admin has a definite anti-British bias. But don't worry, we'll solve that problem for you guys next year. Walsingham Posted October 16, 2011 Author Posted October 16, 2011 (edited) I'm not sure how much of that 'anti-British' bias was simply a bias gainst Gordon Brown. If so, then your President is even smarter than he looks. The man was a titanic imbecile. And I voted for him*. Malc, I'm not sure if a bias is good per se. But considering that I can't think of a single adventure of the US' that we haven't backed them on up to the hilt, you'd think we would have got a more consistent return on the friendship. *Brown was never elected to be Prime Minister. But I seriusly thought he knew what was doing with the economy, back hundreds of years ago when I was younger and stupid. In spite of people I kno w who knew him telling me categorically that he was a bloody fool. >_< Edited October 16, 2011 by Walsingham "It wasn't lies. Guard Dog Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 (edited) I did not say it was good or bad (although in my opinion it is every bad). I just stated it was a fact. And it is. Since he has been in office he has been nothing but discourteous and even antangonistic at time to the Brits. Obama's father was a British subject and he hated the British. I believe that has colored Obama's world view. Walsingham Posted October 17, 2011 Author Posted October 17, 2011 It's probably worth adding that while there's a very strong thread of pro-US thinking in the UK upper echelons, popular culture is sickeningly racist about the US as fat warmongers and fools. It wouldn't take much to shift the UK away from the US. One populist PM. Milliband or Nick Clegg. Take us straight into the EU camp. *bitter laugh* Nonetheless, I hope it won't happen. Whatever troubles we face with Europe an Atlantic perspective is our best bet for maintaining our independence and prosperity. I reckon. "It wasn't lies. I believe that has colored Obama's world view. Any actions in particular that are antagonistic or insulting to the British ? I can't think of any, but may have missed things. As for Obama's dad, you sure he hated the British ? Although, hasn't the US-UK relationship always been slanted to the US since WW2 ? Why has elegance found so little following? Walsingham Posted October 17, 2011 Author Posted October 17, 2011 According to the review of the relationsip in the book Razor's Edge, Hugh Bicheno describes a lot of near misses and frankly mental behaviour on both sides. Makes me angry when I think how much of our country's international behaviour up to and including war comes down to the gossamer imaginings of convinced pacifists, communists and pan-Europeans. Britain has a significant weight in world affairs, both economically and militarily, and I just want to grab people by the lapels and shout at them to try a bit bloody harder. "It wasn't lies.
