Anyone else catch the pilot for The Cape?

There were some things I really liked, and a few that bothered me a bit. The cast is very good, with some inspired choices like Scales and the entire circus troupe, oh and the guy from West Wing. So far the lead actor is the only guy that I wasn't impressed with, which is a bit of a problem. But he might turn out ok, it is always tough to tell in a pilot when they are trying to build an entire backstory for the guy in a very short timeframe.

Summer Glua (Firefly girl) is in it as well, I didn't really get her character though. It's a bit hard to get into her as a normal person, since she has always played less than human roles. I guess we will see how it works out for her.

The story was a bit frenetic, but again it was a pilot and I know they try and force a lot in there to get it greenlit. It was good enough to get me to watch a few more episodes. It's basically Batman, but isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Oh, the whole family angle isn't working for me.

He basically has abandoned them. The proper response to this situation as a parent would be to take your family and leave the city, find somewhere safe. Maybe he could head back once his family was safe, but he is leaving them very exposed. For story purposes the family probably should have been taken out, it would also give more motive to his actions.

Well the pilot basically put Summer Glau in that role of mystery hacker/information specialist. Combining DC's Oracle and the old Dark Angel "Eyes Only" together... Plus the obvious "money" angle.

From what I saw I'm getting a feeling she's going to have a serious connection to the civilian identity of Chess. Young enough to be a daughter of his perhaps? Something to add that sense of cliched twist to it all.

The circus folk look to make an interesting area for potential background stories/hooks.

And there was no explanation for why Chess' eyes go reptile style vertical slits... When he was in super-villain costume you could imagine flashy contact lenses for the effect, but when they briefly showed when he was in CEO clothing...

I watched the first episode and I dont like it. It's just too dumb and cheaply generic

Not for me either. Sappy ****ing sentimental crap forced in there to appease women viewers. Not to mention that it doesnt make any sense to

It looks like the mom is going to take on a legal role and be involved in the fight in some way as well. This would be fine, and might actually be a plot strength, except you still have the young boy who now both parents are placing in danger by their actions.

A better plotline would have the boy dying, both parents getting angry about it. The Cape takes it out on the criminal element, the wife blames the Cape and refuses to have anything to do with him, but does get involved in the fight through the court system. That frees the Cape up to do his thing without the wife and kid tying him down.

Quite a bit of wasted potential in this one.

Liked:

Comic-y enough to be interesting but not so outrageous to cause hatred

Circus guild of heroes could be interesting

Black circus leader guy, I liked him

Dislike:

Could use a bit more comic-y magic to amp things up to the next level and make it more "believable"...

Pacing was beyond awful

Migdet cussing - totally unnecessary, forced and broke immersion, in fact just this guy in general just pisses me off with bad acting

Father/Son dynamic is rage inducing beyond infinite horizons perceptible to the cognitive limits of the mind brah - I'm seriously still mad

Incredibly stupid story, nothing remotely original or even intriguing

Believe me, I saw a brief amount of the trailer for it a while ago and was very interested and rooting for this thing. Needless to say I was disappointed but will continue watching because I have nothing better to do.

There was a time when I questioned the ability for the schizoid to ever experience genuine happiness, at the very least for a prolonged segment of time. I am no closer to finding the answer, however, it has become apparent that contentment is certainly a realizable goal. I find these results to be adequate, if not pleasing. Unfortunately, connection is another subject entirely. When one has sufficiently examined the mind and their emotional constructs, connection can be easily imitated. More data must be gleaned and further collated before a sufficient judgment can be reached.

I never judge too much on a pilot. I'll give it two more episodes and see how it paces itself.

It probably needs to maintain a decent chunk of the Chuck audience to survive the season, which seems feasible enough. Who knows?

I've always tried to be wary of judging a series too harshly the first season (as long as the actual premise is interesting).

Ever since Highlander the tv series, the first season of which was really quite ropey, but once they all figured out what they were doing, they started doing some quite good episodes.

So if I like the key ideas of a series I'm willing to overlook certain elements for a few episodes and see how things settle down.
