Activision wishes to abolish consoles, migrate entirely to PC

Recommended Posts

I don't like the fiddletyness of PC's, personally. Yes a computer can do A LOT of things. Many of them involving you sitting for hours trying to figure out why your program, your CPU, your periphrials, and your installed components seem to have a pre-standing grudge against one another and refuse to talk.

The advantage of the console is that when I buy a game on a console, I know its going to work on the console without spending any time (or money) troubleshooting or replacing obsolete parts.

That said, Activision wants a "plug and play" PC alternative which would be the ideal - take the frustration of having to fiddle with your PC to get it to work, make games so you don't have to upgrade your PC every 6 months to play them and I think the PC will become viable again as a gaming platform.

The only actual difference between PC and consoles these days is the controller. You can buy/build a PC that will happily play all recent games without a hassle.

Which - whether I like it or not - it makes sense for the developer. They get around physical distribution for the most part, get around license fees, get around porting to multiple platforms and can still use a $50 price point since that's what gamers have come to expect from games.

I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man

:shifty:

Activision already upped the price for MW2 on the PC up to $60. They don't want to "offer" a $50 price point to anyone, they want the extra $10 in their pocket.

Also PC gets neatly around the problem of used game sales.

And you are making mistake, that you think that everyone on the earth without the need of posting 2 pages long essay about how speed of light cannot be overdone, and therefore you can't get faster latency with your 1Gbps fiber, does not have a clue about the stuff he is talking about... the faster bandwith contributes to lower latency as well, because you have more bandwith assigned to the same number of data. therefore you have lower chance of collisions and lower chance of your packets getting re-routed through some L3 device in Malaysia, while traveling from your home computer to the OnLive server...

thank you for your understanding...

My last comment regarding this:

You are king at either misunderstanding posts, or strawman attacks.

Good day.

Lets not forget price either. Given that the majority of PC users are not savvy enough to build their own from scratch, or are too lazy too, they generally buy pre-fabs or slighty used ones that would go from 1000-5000 depending on what all you want with it. Console only costs 150-500 (500 being what us suckers paid for a ps3) depending on whether its a console launch or later into its lifespan.
