Celios Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 I recently picked up the original KOTOR on Steam and had an absolute blast playing through it. Naturally I'd love to be able to go through the sequel as well. Sadly, the only copies of KOTOR2 available these days seem to be second hand and quite expensive. My question is, is there any chance that Obsidian might bring some of their catalog to Steam? KOTOR2 and NWN2 seem like particularly good fits, and it would give those of us who missed out on those games the first time around a chance to enjoy them while still supporting the original developers. It seems like the original KOTOR sold well when re-released there recently, so this strikes me as a natural move. Is there something I'm missing, or is this something Obsidian might pursue? Thanks!
Pop Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 That's the publisher's call. Alpha Protocol will definitely be available, don't know about Obsidz' other games. Join me, and we shall make Production Beards a reality!
Starwars Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 There have been several mentions in the past of negotiating and stuff with putting NWN2 on there, I think they even confirmed that it would actually be there. But nothing happened so not sure what's going on. Listen to my home-made recordings (some original songs, some not): http://www.youtube.c...low=grid&view=0
PastramiX Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 LucasArts doesn't really want the public to know that there was a KotOR II; you can thank TOR for that (Kreia, who?). The entire DnD game franchise is in legal hell due to the latest Atari-Hasbro Battle for the Intellectual Property Alpha Protocol Wiki
Matthew Rorie Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 As mentioned, new publishing avenues are going to be up to our publishers, so putting NWN2/KOTOR2 on Steam is going to be up to Atari/Lucasarts, respectively. Sorry; we'd love to have them on there as well. Matthew Rorie
mkreku Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 You really need to get out from under the boot of your publishers. You're not allowed to talk, you're not allowed to patch, you're not allowed to sell, you're not allowed to choose where to sell. It's a ****ed up system. Why should publishers have so much power? Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
Pop Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Because they shoulder costs / risks and help raise capital? Join me, and we shall make Production Beards a reality!
Walsingham Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 Surely the fact that they putup costs and seek to maximise return should be a reason for them to stop funting everything sideways? Why is it that the simple lesson of not power-micro-managing from on high needs to be relearned by every fething human endeavour every ten minutes? "It wasn't lies. Morgoth Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 I don't get it. Why can I buy Kotor1 on Steam, but not Kotor2? Rain makes everything better.
Oner Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 a:Kotor 2 is too awesome and Steam suffers a breakdown. b:Since Kotor 2 "interferes" with the SWtor canon, it isn't acknowledged as existing. c:??? Morgoth Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Kotor2 sold very well, so LA has to acknowledge it's success. Rain makes everything better.
Walsingham Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 b:Since Kotor 2 "interferes" with the SWtor canon, it isn't acknowledged as existing. You make it sound sordid, when in fact it's more a liberating life-enriching affirmation like in that film. "It wasn't lies. Giantevilhead Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 I'm not really surprised that Lucas Arts is trying to suppress KotoR2. Lucas has done just about everything he can to make the franchise more kid friendly. The themes and ideas in KotoR2 are too mature for him.
