Purkake
I tried to play Quake Live back when it went public, but it was impossible to sign up, let alone play. So I finally remembered about it and signed up. It's basically Quake 3 Arena that runs in your browser at full speed and full Quake 3 graphics. It's also pretty fun. Oh and it's totally free! Kaftan Barlast
But its complete fail in that you cant run your own servers, so if you want to play with just some friends, you're screwed. Or you'll have to put up with having 15 strangers in the match aswell. Purkake
Well you can do duels and there are some "private matches" in the server browser. Edit: apparently they're looking to add private matches as a premium service. That's certainly an interesting idea, I wonder how that will work out. Still it's pretty fun to just do a random deathmatch every now and then in the comfort of your own browser. I demand UT Live! jaguars4ever
If by "premium service" you mean a fee, then I might as well dig up my Q3 and play for free.

Kaftan Barlast
Tried battlefield heros? Yes, it's crap. Purkake
Is it even public? From what I've heard it's a complete disaster with unbalanced classes, everything taking way too long to kill and like three maps in total. At least Quake Live managed to copy Q3:A pretty well. Kaftan Barlast
I dont know if its fully public, Ive been a beta tester for ages. And what you say is true, alopng with a whole bag of other annoying flaws DISCLAIMER: Do not take what I write seriously unless it is clearly and in no uncertain terms, declared by me to be meant in a serious and non-humoristic manner. vault_overseer
Dunno why you hate, it's a decent arcady shooter, very simple and casual. I've had my fun with it and it definitely was worth the price.
Purkake
The "price" in this case is the time you spend on it. I'd rather play QL. This really makes me want to reinstall UT, actually. I was always more of a UT fan than Q3 fan.
Humodour
But its complete fail in that you cant run your own servers, so if you want to play with just some friends, you're screwed. Or you'll have to put up with having 15 strangers in the match aswell. It's not designed for that, though. It's free (based on advertisements) and it's based on an old game already released which DOES have that capability. An open-sourced game, to boot! Edit: And, it should be noted, it runs in your browser. Edited October 26, 2009 by Krezack
