Was having a look at different digital download sites and came across GamersGate I was wondering if anyone had used this site, because they offer a good price on games. More accurately Red Faction Guerrilla.

SteamAus $69.95

GamersGate $39.99

And yes Aussie can use it without being shady.

I've bought a single game there. Not enough to base an opinion on :)

The game was EUIII complete with expansions. I had bought the game without the expansions previously on a disc and the only difference was that some large, unessential intro movies with company logo etc. seems to have been cut to save bandwidth. Decent download speed, giving me the option to save the downloaded install file for backup.

Cheers for that. Going to give it a go. :)

I bought Puzzle Quest from GamersGate. It refused to install when I had downloaded it (which was very fast). Checked the official boards and it turned out that the game they sold me was broken and required me to install some .dll-files in the correct subfolder for it to work. I got it to work but the whole thing felt very unprofessional.

Since then they've scrapped their own buggy installer and it's supposedly much better now. But I haven't bought anything else from there since.

Unfortunately, the DL speed for me is not so good, it's currently DL at 22kbs with an apporxament time of 72:22:10. :)

I'll just have to continue playing Risen. Which was also cheap at GamersGate.

I've bought two games there and not had any trouble. Download speeds weren't great, but you take what you can get, and they quite often have non-US games before the other major download sites. ;)

I've bought 3 games from them over the years:

Darkstar: One

Football Manager 2009

King's Bounty The Legend

Apparently, I also have something called "Volvo the Game" but I don't remember buying that. :o

Are they DRM-free?

Unless a store is DRM-free I'll stick to Steam. At least I know they're unlikely to ever go bankrupt.

Steam is like an annoying shrew of a woman that takes over your life and regulates what you're doing and when.

manthing2.jpg

I've bought a couple of games from them. Never really had any trouble. The DRM is developer-dependant, I think (Paradox' own titles are DRM-free). Pretty hassle-free.

(Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)

Which is the fastest, btw: D2D, Steam, or GamersGate?

I my experience D2D is slower than a sea turtle on dope. But then again, Steam isn't a great deal faster...

Steam goes up to my maximum of 1.2MB/s here most of the time, so I can't complain about that. Don't know about the others.

Steam downloads don't take up bandwidth quota here, because my ISP hosts the Steam servers for Australia.

Score.

Yeah, well my ISP isn't run by Koala bears and aborigines.

Score.

I wouldn't even know what a "bandwidth quota" is.

I get to flip out and kill people because ninjas are totally sweet and awesome!

Score.

Facts:

1. Ninjas are mammals.

2. Ninjas fight ALL the time.

3. The purpose of the ninja is to flip out and kill people.

I bought parkan 2 from them a while ago. I don't remember mch about my experience, besides that it was a huge PITA

Is Parkan 2 any good?

I'm been toying with the idea of trying that out for years, but it just seems like a stripped down Freelancer with robots.

Independence War 2 is pretty sweet, but it's probably not on GamersGate.

If you can find me a place where I can download legitimate copies (not the bukkake version) of I-War 1 & 2, I will name my first born after you.

manthing2.jpg

Download? no. But you can buy it on Amazon for ~$5 these days.

When did "bukkake" become synonymous with "illegal"?

Ever since Roman Polanski stopped taking female auditions.

Amazon, hmm? I'll look into it.

manthing2.jpg

You can start here.

Why thank you good sir. :ermm:

It seems I've misjudged you mud-chucking Estonians.

Yeah, it's pretty sweet once all the mud freezes, you can snowboard and stuff.
