Hey folks,

As I didn't find any FAQ or info collecting fan site so far, I thought I could git on some speculation myself:

Without any known statements or hints pointing that way I am 100% sure we will not only see Aliens, Alien Queens and Facehuggers being our adversaries but also

+ over ambitious amoral scientists breeding aliens for their well paying employers, who are

+ greedy corporate CEOS, propably from Weyland-Yutani Corp, who have also hired

+ mercenaries and

+ rouge/corrupted colonial marines to get you killed.

Speculate with me, I'm heavily bored today ...

I,d like the developers to remain "pure", meaning this that they will not invent new types of aliens and such.

I second that. Would be a shame. On the other hand, the foes I mentioned would be very few. I had the very same problem back in the days when I was DM fpr the p&p Aliens RPG. Always the same foes, I didn't dare to add "non-canonical"-ones.

Perhaps there's options from that "expanded universe"? I don't know much about that though, as I never had the chance to read those comics. perhaps there's stuff to integrate. Is there a nerdopedia anywhere in the WWW people can recommend? I didn't find a lot so far.

EDIT: I guess if I were responsible for the overall plot, I'd save the Aliens up for very late in the game. Perhaps letting them pop once at the beginning of the story, triggering an quest for the player character who then goes on an investigation like Winona in Aliens IV: Resurrection. This would allow a story where lots of different human adversaries on different worlds/starships must be persuaded or fought before the first slimy pit appears on the floor of some remote secret deep space research station lab.

What do you think?

Alien: Resurrection had the genetically modified aliens, such as the ones that now knew how to swim, or the even more humanlike alien at the end. I suppose they are "canon" and could be in the game... but I agree with not throwing in other alien races (well, other than predators ... ok, just kidding, we've so had that discussion...)

But ... obviously, yes, even in keeping with the movies, you should have adversaries that are human (or android) as well as alien.

I always love Ripley's line to Burke: "well at least THEY don't **** each other over for a percentage".

The only non-canonical thing I,d dare to add in game would be the praetorian BUT ONLY WITH ITS AVP EXTINCTION BACKGROUND. (all those who have read its description in this game should know what I mean and why it could be in game).

The praetorian, the alien itself, the only one which represents the "parasite" the alien is..., the only purebreed alien..., the rest are all hybrids.

Prisoners, fanatic followers of some alien-cult and body snatchers (like the crew of the Betty in Alien Resurrection). Androids are a must I guess.

Praetorians are pretty cool. I like the idea of bigger, older and more successful hives having those. Otherwise I'm not a big fan of new Alien types either.

This has been discussed here before. The RPG suggested that there are other hostile lifeforms indigenous to the planets humans have colonised and the marines are occasionally called in to deal with those as well.

SODOFF Steam group.

I'd suggest something which parasitises the aliens. Something which is quite dangerous to humans, but really messes them up. Like... like... cane toads... or something.

tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. RIP Hades/Sand/etc. Here's hoping your next alt has a harp.

As has been suggested Alien vs Predator, the old videogame not the film, is a excellent start point to get ideas. Praetorians is very nice choice also the hound-like aliens (the teenaliens).

There is also a very important enemy that has been forgotten: the aliens were "only" a cargo, a good to traffic with. Maybe the trafficant, the folks of the murdered big UFO pilot in "Alien: 8th passenger", could be even a more dangerous faction... not in the melee fight if you are an alien :(

Capcom's side-scrolling arcade game AvP(God, I miss those good old days) happends to have a nice list of Alien breeds as well for variety purpose. The designs of the bosses at the very least did not stray off to far from the original, yet succeeding in making them different all the same.

Lists of some peculiar enemies in the game:

-Royal Guards

Alien Queen's personal bouncers. Huge sized aliens, but still smaller than the Queen.

-Chrysalises

Evolved alien that has hardened shells for its back. Huge in size that affects its speed, but well armored. It remains to be smaller in size than the Royal guards though.

-Razor Claws

Another alternate elvolved alien with extended claws. Height is comparable to Royal Guard, but has very thin frame for its body. Extremely agile.

sigh. Good old days. I miss side scrolling fighting games.

AvP2, with the little tidbits of info it threw in the path of the player, gave a pretty credible and consistent explanation of the role of the praetorian, which was tied to how new colonies are established. IIRC, praetorians are, according to AvP lore, nothing more and nothing less than young queens. I really need to replay that game.

I'm not against new alien varieties/hybrids/mutants a priori - AvP had a "predalien" which wasn't too bad. But watching Resurrection it's easy realize how little it takes to jump the shark.

edit: I was wrong, actually. Here's what's said about the praetorian in the game:

However most seem to believe that the Praetorian is formed as a last stage in a drone's life cycle. This theory states that there is a period that each drone who lives long enough goes through, which involves molting and growing to immense heights; while the process goes on however, it emits a strong pheromone that enrages the Hive, thereby making most inhabitants aggressive towards the outcast Drone, causing it to retreat to the outward world. Eventually it is said to return as a Praetorian, if it survived.

That looks like something Space Siege* would come up with.

First avp was sooo good and avp2 was soooo lame. Regarding the praetorian, you should check the praetorian description from avp:extinction out; avp extinction was a poor game, but if you liked the avp2 description for it, wait to read the one form this last game, I can assure you that it,s the best out there. (in fact, it,s the only good thing coming from extinction xD).

I would like to see a Weeland Youthani corporation sponcored fights between human aliens and the Predlien. I know it would be an easy fight because the Predalien is more fierce but my brother says not to underestimate the other aliens because their phallic.

I AM A PREDALIEN ROAR!!

KICKARSE!

I'd disagree with you. AvP1 was poorly designed, had some chaotic combat, totally inbalanced spawn rate and confusing leveldesign. Strangely enough, all these "negative" elements made it atmospherically still the better game, probably exactly due to it's hectic and fast nature, and the superior lighting engine.
