The box-art was utterly stupid in the sense that it was horrible marketing and it put many many people off the game.

Personal opinion may differ, of course. For example I was neutral towards it. But it was indeed not the best move to make for the marketing dept at IPLY.

Have to agree about the box-art being poor, as I was one of those fools who passed on PST simply looking at the Box Art, not realizing it used the same engine as Baldur's Gate and had one of the greatest stories in a video game ever. It was only years later, through praise on the internet that I finally gave it a try.

I only bought PS:T because I realised it was by the same people that made Baldur's Gate (or so I thought at the time).

I played it for a bit and then dumped it.

I think I then tried it again a week later, because I didn't want to waste money and was too lazy to return it. That time it stuck and I've considered it one of the best games ever since.

The same happened with Deus Ex. The only reason I didn't return it was because the store was closed that day. Again, one of my favourite games of all time.

Don't get me wrong, I count Giants, Sacrifice, Nexus and Battlezone 2 as 4 of my top 10 games, and they ALL left hardly a blip on the gaming radar. All of them brilliant innovative games with no chance of a sequel.

Just compare the sales of KotoR with Jade Empire, people respond to brand, espesally where the vast majority of gamers don't actually do much research before a purchase.

Its portfolio of well-recognized Intellectual Properties includes Battlechess, Clayfighter, Dark Alliance, Descent, Earthworm Jim, Freespace, Giants, Messiah, MDK, Run Like Hell, Sacrifice and others.

The fact that they mention Giants and Sacrifice (and Messiah!) must mean that they realize that those games have fans... I don't know if I want sequels, but I'd really like to see more games like Sacrifice - that was a quite unique visual experience, to say the least.

If some marketing genius had put Annah's boobs on the box, it wold have outsold Diablo for sure.

Instead we got a BIS employee painted blue and with a mop glued to his head. Yeah yeah that's teh game I want. lol. :)

Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.

It wasn't just a unique visual experience, most every part of it was unique (as I remember it at least). I too really liked it.

I think it was Bob Marley.

Sacrifice, like other oft-forgot classics like I-War 2:Edge of Chaos and Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising, was simply brilliant. It started with the same idea as Massive's Ground Control; move RTS gameplay away from bases and turtling into the field of action and constant real-time decisions. Yet, it retained resource control and greatly streamlined it into the general gameplay and the original features like the soul management and the ingenious idea of the player having an actual presence on the battlefield as a unit, like another classic - Battlezone(1998), really gave the game a lasting uniqueness.

well... it was Guido Henkel, the producer of PS:T, who is on the box cover. not say that makes the cover art a good decision, just a little trivia for yas.

I took this job because I thought you were just a legend. Just a story. A story to scare little kids. But you're the real deal. The demon who dares to challenge God.

So what the hell do you want? Don't seem to me like you're out to make this stinkin' world a better place. Why you gotta kill all my men? Why you gotta kill me?

Nothing personal. It's just revenge.
