Physical aspects of the aliens had as much to do with technical limitations as director preference. The original alien suit was very difficult to move in/inflexible, which is one of the primary reasons why it moves so slowly in the first film. For Aliens, the suits were made of much more flexible materials, so you see the aliens engaged in much faster movement. Things like the "stovepipes" were more just director preference.

The slowness made the Alien also appear more creepy.

It probably dictated the creatures' behavior a good bit. In Alien, the creature would stalk and sneak up on its victims or outflank them (like Dallas). In Aliens they were super-zerglings, mindlessly throwing themselves toward the gunfire.

Oh Jimmy, you were so funny.

Don't let me down.

From habit he lifts his watch; it shows him its blank face.

Zero hour, Snowman thinks. Time to go.

They did whatever it took to keep the Queen safe. She had to be protected at all costs, even their own lives.

Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.

They didn't do a very good job...

I'd like to see you do anything well when you're dead.

Hey now, my mother is huge and don't you forget it. The drunk can't even get off the couch to make herself a vodka drenched sandwich. Octopus suck.

There isn't much use for guerilla warfare in Aliens when you have a swarm as strength.

Well, yeah. It's also the director's decision to make an action movie instead of a horror movie.

Alien is definietly my favourite, and my least fav is Aliens.

Aliens just wasn't scary really, the only good thing about this movie in my opinion are Sigourney's acting , the setting, and Alien Queen. All the rest is blah. Seeing dozens of aliens being mauled just didn't work for me.
