My first computer was a Commodore 64, but I can't in all honesty pick it over the PC, which has given me so many years of happy gaming (and endless frustrations too, but let's not go there...)

My first game machine was a Pong dedicated thingie. I could play Pong and that was it. Later came the Vic 20, then the Commodore 64.

Yeah. Pong.

If a P/C is anything like a PC, thats what i'm voting.

I just feel it's pointless to buy games that require a special console, because sooner or later you will wind up with loads of different consoles and a stack of games for each of them. Why no have something that can play them all.

I take it an Amiga CD2 is not the same as an Amiga, since the Amiga was meant as a personal computer for the games and graphics enthusiasts.

I know there are ways around it in many cases, but operating systems and hardware make this very much not the total case.

I can't play Dark Omen or Syndicate Wars on my current computer and don't even get me started on getting sound working on the SCUMM games.

Given the backwards compatability and arcade options of modern consoles this point (while fair) is becoming less and less true.

Direct X backward compatibility doesn't stretch that far, i'd say you need a DOS box for one, and run the other in win 98/95 mode.

Anywho, many of those games are re released at bargain bin prices, 3 for a laugh, I remember Dark Omen was for instance. ,

All that work feels awfully like owning another console.
