One thing that gets me is the whole declaration of "Off World Activation!" Of course it is off world. Why do they need to declare it every single time the gate activates?

Murphy's Law of Computer Gaming: The listed minimum specifications written on the box by the publisher are not the minimum specifications of the game set by the developer.

One thing that gets me is the whole declaration of "Off World Activation!" Of course it is off world. Why do they need to declare it every single time the gate activates?

Because its an unscheduled activation and they never know who it is so they warn everyone, the security team comes, and they can read the IDC and decide whether they should lower the shields preventing anyone from passing or whether they should not do so. Its basically protocol, you know.

Why don't they simple say "Unscheduled Activation" since it is already known that it is off world.

The DHD dialing device could of been triggered from on Atlantis either by an ancinet device not fully understood or by a malfunction, so if its found to have been activated via off-world DHD, that is also announced along with fact that its unscheduled. Nearly all dialing is unscheduled except for weekly reports to the SGC, too. Usually SG teams simply come back when they need to.

"The Last Man" (already aired) spoilers [hi-light]

Woolsey: Well, seeing as your whole team besides yourself has been killed in the field, we're suspending all off-world teams.

Roney McKay: Wait, Sheppard didn't die.

Woolsey: Right... He was just sent 48,000 years into the future... I guess that makes him one of the lucky ones...

spoilers

Its pretty bad. My favorite new episode is season 4 finale of SGA. "The Last Man" Sheppard after a failed attempt to find Teyla, tries to return to Atlantis but goes 48,000 years into future. He finds a holgram of McKay that is interactive and makes McKay look like hes 60. Firstly, the child was born [Teyla's]. Teyla was found dead at a Micheal hideout. McKay then says Carter got a new ship. She worked hard with guerilla tactics against Micheal's fleet. Micheal eventually set an amush and she beamed the crew off board than comakazied 3 hive ships. Ronan ends up raising a private army but ends up suicide bombing a Micheal facility. The new leader ending up being Woolsey. (See first text) Keller couldn't continue treating people with the Hothan disease and she and Rodney left Atlantis to Earth on the Deadleaus. They fall in love over 3 weeks of hyperspace. Keller gets Hoth disease and dies. McKay, in dispair, suddenly gets idea to bring Sheppard back. After 25 years, he finishes his work and with then General Lorne's permission he sets up a hologram for Sheppard. Sheppard finds the city not ocean, but desert and 120 degrees. He finds the holo, works with it/him and gets back to the present. Knowing which planet Teyla had died on, they travel there... Waiting for season 5 now...

What annoys me to no end with SGA is that they end the season with a cliffhanger, knowing full well that it will be months before the next episode. Personally I like how Torchwood and Doctor Who does it. They have a string of episodes that sometimes intertwined with a single plot thread that comes together in the last 2 to 3 episodes, and the season concludes with no loose strings. Each season is self contained.

Yeah. I don't mind personally and thats not a "real SGA" problem. I mean, lots of shows do that kind of thing.

I think you'll find ratings indicate cliff-hangers are a very successful strategy.

Yes, but they are annoying.

I agree. They'll do better with the next season's premier because of the cliffhanger.

Did you watch Dead Like Me?

Dead Like Me was one of the best TV shows to come from the US in the last few years. I loved it, and was very disappointed it was cancelled.

All this talk of Stargate and Atlantis has made me want to watch it. I just don't have enough sci-fi in my life these days.

Hey Steve, you heard they're making a Dead Like Me movie, then another series, right?

EDIT: Would highly recommend Stargate. Watch the Stargate movie first, then try seasons 1 to 3 of SG1. If you like them, continue on. If you still want more, pick up Atlantis.

I actually cheered when I read that! The guy repairing the air conditioner got a bit of a shock, but I don't care. That's the best news I've had this week, and that's the truth. :ermm::) :)

Damn straight, mate.

I may have only been introduced to DLM this year, but I was very sad to only have 2 seasons.

Poor A/C guy. Hey Krezack, have you seen Ark of Truth yet?

Also I hope Atlantis beats Eureka for Sci-Fi's original series summer programming. :)

EDIT: Why did the chicken cross into the stargate?

Walkerguy and a wraith were going to KFC.

McKay is sitting at the DHD, sipping coffee. All the sudden the gate recieves a wormhole. "Unsheduled off-world activation!" he yells. Suddenly, both Walkerguy and a wraith step through both looking for chicken and to feed...

I have not seen Ark of Truth yet.

I was able to see Ark of Truth. It is of typical Stargate quality and I was not disappointed.
