Recent Video Problems

Recommended Posts

I have played through a bit of KOTOR2 when it was released but never actually finished it and ended up uninstalling it but recently decided to reinstall it again. When i played it before i made it a little ways past the secret academy on Telos but now I'm getting problems trying to get out of the academy and some weird shader problems after a driver update. So my original problem was that after it would play the video of you leaving the academy it would load then my mouse would show up but stay on a black screen, though i could still hear and click on the interface. So i figured it was a driver problem so i updated my catalyst drivers from 7.10 to 7.12. Now that problem still persists only i get longer load times and now my shaders like the blur effect when you use the jedi speed boost are screwed up. I also tried reinstalling and updating, no luck there either. I'm running Windows XP Pro (up to date), Pentium 4 2.4 GHz, Radeon 9600 Pro 256, and 1 Gig of ram. Heres my settings.

Shadows- On

Grass- On

Resolution- 1024x768 @ 85Hz

Textures- High

Anti-Aliasing- Off

Anisotropy- Off

Frame Buffer Effects- On

Soft Shadows- Off

Vsync- Off

I also made a short 1:39 video so you can actually see whats going on. For some reason Fraps didnt pick up the cursor or the video of the ship leaving the hangar so please be patient through out the blackness >_<.

I think that if you turn off frame buffer effects everything shoulg go back to normal. You won't get the blur when using the speed boost, though.

Also, while I don't have an ATI card, I hear the omega drivers are better than the official catalyst drivers. Perhaps you want to try those.

Yeah turning off the frame buffer effects is a way to circumvent the shader problem, but then its not as pretty >_<, and it still doesn't fix the black screen after leaving the hidden academy. I'm downloading the newest omega drivers right now and ill post again to tell you what happens.

Not from me, sorry. Perhaps someone with an ATI card can help you.

How old are your DirectX files the reason I ask is because you cant get them through windows update. It is HERE. The reason I say this is because it might be the ATI driver needs a newer file than the one you currently have. I don't have an ATI card right now but I had one a year ago (9250) and I never had a problem like this.
