Factions

Featured Replies

That'd be the obvious conclusion, unless it takes place post-Resurrection, in which case Wal-Mart would be the faceless corporate faction.

If we take in everything seen in comics, games and films we can come up with a few factions -

Normal Blacks

Reds

K-Series

Mutated Clones

Predator Grown

And for humans -

Marines

Mercinaries

Weyland Yutani

Randomly thought up company rival

Beserker teams...

...the list could go on.

Don't forget the Xenoborg!

Which I think is generally an insult to the aliens.

The marines ... are they from a "united Earth"? A united solar system? A united galactic area? What about different political organisations ... surely it's not just corporates and one single government / miliatry: I'd expect lots of private armed forces ... and they might be tempted to use the Xenomorphs as the warring classical Greek states used the Persians.

And they'd all fail. Aliens can not be controlled!

Agreed, but that doesn't stop some from trying to deal with the devil ...

I think the total lack of other cultures is quite an oversight.

There is no way that human civilization will continue without Chinese culture being a large, possibly separate, regionally dominant force.

What's interesting to to try to extrapolate from the current situation to the future ... China has already changed from a Marxist state to a single-party state, similar to Singapore, but has managed to keep disparate cultural elements like Hong Hong both intact and integrated with millennia-old institutions, such like Confucianism.

Competing corporations, armed forces, and technologies.

Actually, they were Russian. But I like the idea of other nations and their own factions.

I had no idea there were Ruskies.

Still, we need some Chinese culture ... some Fireflyesque bilingualism and neat pictographic replacements for computer icons (I can see this happening eventually).

But, this would be contrary to everything we've seen from the universe.

Every franchise tries to adopt its own style. They don't all need to be a reasonable evolution of the modern world that assumes the current power bases are either all nuked into oblivion or none are.

The earth we see in aliens would probably be similar to the one we see in blade runner. Admittedly there wouldn't me much sprawl because of contamination.

Question: Are Predetors officially a part of this or is it just aliens?

As for alien factions they'd probably operate like ants. Different races of the ants act differently, for example around my house there were a ring of argintinian sugar lovers that were annoying as crap, but they wouldn't wipe each other out because they all considered themselves to be one massive family. Meanwhile the local ants (which are much more powerful than the south american ones) got powered out because one nest can't fight off five.

The only thing about the Aliens series that I can see that could pose a problem is that there isn't that much to provide for drama. sure you could make it with other characters but wheres the intercontinental strife between things that understand each other? I mean we know the government has an obsession with using the Xeno's as bioweapons but from everything I remember the entire world is controled by 'the company' with only one or two people who activly fight off the company.

This has been confirmed as only covering the Alien license. No Predators.

The world is not controlled by Weyland-Yutani. There is significant room for other corporations. Heck, conflict just between the people conflicting with the aliens and the company trying to preserve a specimen can provide drama. I can see the player being given an opportunity to either side with the corporation and risk lives to preserve an Alien or to side with the people at risk and just do your best to get everyone out alive and nuke them from orbit.

I donno... from what I've read it looks like The Company pretty much owns the world in the way that Microsoft owns our PC's. Sure you can use somthing else but then you'd have to be the old guy who has suspenders and knows WAY to much about computing.

If the company owned the whole world, they never would have been bought out by Wal-Mart. We also see the concept show up in Alien vs Predator 2, the PC game, where there are corporate mercenaries seperate from the colonial marines. In active conflict in the expansion.

They're very much like Resident Evil's Umbrella corporation. Immensely powerful and has hands into everything, but that doesn't mean everyone's a-okay with their weapon's development projects that have the potential to wipeout all of mankind. Saying only one or two people actively fight the company is like saying that everyone but Ripley so far has lined up for incubation while chanting "for da company!"

If anything, the company is greatly outnumbered in the situations where Aliens appear. The first two movies features only one major character each that is actually working for the company (in regards to the Aliens, payroll or not) and with everyone else against them. The third movie features nobody with loyalty to the company until the last minutes and the fourth movie features the company out of business.

Well, there are approximately five 1km+ asteroid impacts with Earth every million years, and if one of those hit mainland China then there would be almost total devastation of Asia ... the kinetic energy from the impact would probably trigger a lot of volcanism, as well. 70% of volcanoes are on plate boundaries, which are all across Asia. (The asteroid that is hypothesized to have caused the Cretaceous-Tertiary extinction event, 65 million years ago, is estimated to be about 10km. There is an asteroid that crosses Earth orbit called Cruithne that is 5km in diameter, as well as a few others.)

Are you supporting my stance by saying that maybe China could be hit by a meteor?

Yes. (Otherwise there is no way that China wouldn't be a large/the largest influence in world affairs in a century's time.)
