Sand
Looks more like a FPS than a CRPG. Murphy's Law of Computer Gaming: The listed minimum specifications written on the box by the publisher are not the minimum specifications of the game set by the developer. @\NightandtheShape/@ - "Because you're a bizzare strange deranged human?" karka
Yep. It will be a FPS. Crossplayer(multiplayer + singleplayer) FPS. One of the dumbest things i ever heard. See the silly teaser below. Arcane, what have they done to you? :'(
Sand
If it is a FPS then why is RPGWatch have an article on it? I thought they watch for RPGs. Morgoth
If it is a FPS then why is RPGWatch have an article on it? I thought they watch for RPGs. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Arkane did an Ultima Underworld clone (Arx Fatalis), so I guess that's why they have a place somewhere in their hearts... As for Crossplayer: That's a bold concept. I'm myself not really fond of multiplayer, but I trust Arkane they're not gonna turn it into a dull UT/CS clone. The setting and screenshots surely look interesting. Plus Source Engine is always a plus in my book. Rain makes everything better.
karka
I really don't know. Maybe because some RPG players may still have some interests what Arcane is doing. Edited December 24, 2006 by karka
Morgoth
I definitely do, but not because of Arx, but because of DMoMM. They surely want to step into Looking Glass' legacy, and that's a good thing in my book. Rain makes everything better.

Tale
That free game looks like Penumbra. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
mkreku
Dar Messiah of Might & Magic was repetitive, uninspired and plain stupid in its level design. And I was never able to get hooked on Arx Fatalis either. So.. that means I'm not interested in this title at all. What am I doing in this thread?? I am lost. Help. Mommy. :'( Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
Dhruin
We covered it once because we really didn't have much info on Crossover at the time and we figured readers would want to know what they were up to. But that's it...no more interest in it.
Morgoth
I have my fingers crossed for The Crossing. Arkane proved that they can deliver top quality FPS/Sneak style gameplay with Dark Messiah, a quality that usually was reserved for the Looking Glass Legacy bunch only.... Besides, the concept sounds great. Rain makes everything better.
Hell Kitty
Stolen from some guy posting at TTLG: The basic concept is this: Say you're playing through a typical single-player area where you need to fulfill a specific objective, like infiltrate a building and plant a bomb. In a typical single-player mission, like in Half-Life 2, you might have one set of AI bots helping you and another set of AI bots opposing you (the Combine). Two teams, right? In The Crossing, when you begin this mission, your single-player game connects with a "skirmish" type of gametype played between two teams of humans. So the opponents trying to keep you from infiltrating that building and planting that bomb are actually human players in the middle of a multiplayer game against the team of human players which is assisting you. So as you play through the story-driven single-player game, you connect to different servers with different multiplayer games, replacing your usual dumb AI enemies (and friendlies) with real human participants. That just sounds like Counterstrike. What's the deal with "Story-driven"? I thought I could play the hero who has to safe the chicks while the rest has to play some peasant type dudes who clean the streets, or play merchant, or drive my limousine. ) Rain makes everything better. karka
What if i want to play the game in 2010, when servers are empty?
Morgoth
Well, then you'll just play with dumb AI bots. But maybe that doesn't make a difference at all, either. Rain makes everything better.
Morgoth
More Info on The Crossing The latest issue of Games for Windows magazine has the promised cover story on The Crossing, the upcoming Source engine based first person shooter from developer Arkane Studios. The game design will attempt to merge aspects of single player and multiplayer in what the article is calling "cross-play", all based around a storyline that centers on the city of Paris that has fallen into disarray following the collapse of the French government. There's also jumping between parallel universes to a world where in the Middle Ages the Knights Templar did not disban and have in fact taken control of the government. The merging of single and multiplayer in The Crossing happens when "story players" (either by themselves or in co-op mode) suddenly switch over to fight live "skirmish players". Skirmish players can also go into story missions, taking over enemies that normally would be controlled by a game's AI. Arkane Studios is apparently planning to control the game's servers for players of The Crossing to assure that the mixing of single and multiplayer matches is seemless. There are hints about unlockable content in The Crossing for players that participate in these kinds of matches. The Crossing is still early in development; the article states it's not due until sometime in 2008 and the screenshots that accompany the article are said to be very early (they pretty much look like a Half-Life 2 mod).
