kumquatq3 Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 The Good: Good death animations. The Bad: Numerous crashes and glitches get in the way; minimal character building and progression; most of the game's combat is unsatisfying; storyline is almost completely transparent right off the bat. http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/darkmess...gic/review.html oops!
Musopticon? Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 Hahhahaa...Arkane should have stayed on "doing crpgs for obscure Ultima Underworld fanboys"-thing. They should have....ah heck, who am I kidding, this just makes me sad. I mean, I don't exactly trust reviewers, but if the grade really is that low, there's gotta be some truth to the review. It's not IGN either. kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. I had to fight against blood thirsty wolves and rabid penguins to get my food. Those who were too weak to survive were sent to Sweden. It has made me the man I am today. A man who craves furry hentai. So let us go and embrace the rustling smells of unseen worlds
Llyranor Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 Wait, didn't Gamespot say DM was one of the best games at E3? And now combat is unsatisfying? Okay.... (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
Noceur Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 (edited) Meh, I liked the videos... looked like it could be a good fantasy action game or something. But I didn't like the demo much at all. There were some things I liked, but over all; no. Probably due to bad performance and combat that didn't suit me much at all. Edited October 28, 2006 by Noceur

Okay.... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Show me a preview were they don't suck **** Their reviews, however, are usually the best of the major online review sites. IMO.

Pidesco Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 His complaints about the combat seem idiotic. Other than that, the guy's probably right. On topic, that's too bad about the game, if true. Another game that might've been fun to waste my brain away on, that's apparently not. A fantasy-world FPS might be something that would get me more into FPS. Draken was sorta like a 3rd person action fantasy, but ... “Things are as they are. Big Bottom Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 I've seen plenty of positive reviews of DM as well, I wouldn't write the game off because of one negative. The best flash game ever!
LadyCrimson Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 How positive? I mean, the one above wasn't horribly negative in the written text, really. Beyond the bugs, it just sounded like they thought it was uninspired and mediocore...not terrible. Which could be said of many games. But since I'm not too into combat-action type games, mediocore may as well be terrible. It'd have to really shine for me to get into it. “Things are as they are. Arkan Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 I still want to play this...guess I'll get it when it's cheaper and the bugs are fixed. "Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger." - Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials "I have also been slowly coming to the realisation that knowledge and happiness are not necessarily coincident, and quite often mutually exclusive" - meta

Darque Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 Can you give it special abilities though? Making a generic sword seems kinda dull
LadyCrimson Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 Hmm...that article made me realize I mispelled mediocre. Twice. hah! Yes, my brains are leaking out my ears more every day! That review is definitely much better - he didn't make mention of any major bugs, either, so perhaps it's not hopelessly riddled. I don't like the sound of "such elongated loading times", tho. That's ok for a strategy-mission campaign type game, but an action game, it stinks. Hmm. Thanks for that, Meta. I guess I was hoping it'd be action-rpg like, with a shooter-style flavor. We'll see. “Things are as they are. Looking out into the universe at night, we make no comparisons between right and wrong stars, nor between well and badly arranged constellations.” – Alan Watts
mkreku Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 I usually trust Eurogamer.net more than any other review site. They gave it 8/10. Still not convinced by this game and I'm too lazy to download the demo. Damn. Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!

Morgoth Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 Yes it's totally worth it! You download 1.5Gbyte and then play a whooping 10min! Rain makes everything better.
