Darth Hades Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 I just bought the game and I am getting terrible lag at every point of the game so far, I can barely create a character without gettin frustrated with the lag. How can I correct this?
Belhawk Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 goto this site and tweak oblivion ini config in my documents/games/oblvion Oblivion Tweak Guide be sure to change the grass from 80 to 120-140. U may want to try bloom instead of hdr. Turn off some background apps that u don't need while running oblivion. also, what sort of system, vid card do u have.
213374U Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Get ph4tter hardware. - When he is best, he is a little worse than a man, and when he is worst, he is little better than a beast.
Haitoku Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Tweaking will only get you so far... better hardware is the only real solution.
Darth Hades Posted June 28, 2006 Author Posted June 28, 2006 Nvidia Geforce FX 5500 vid card System wise it is also compatible, according to specifications on the box.
Bokishi Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Yeah the 5500 isn't all too hot. Upgrade will be your best bet. Get a 6800 or a 7800 GS Current 3DMark
alanschu Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Try turning down every graphical option to as low as it can go, and go from there.
Haitoku Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Nvidia Geforce FX 5500 vid card System wise it is also compatible, according to specifications on the box. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Specifications on the box are ridiculous. I exceed the recommended hardware and I can't play on the default settings with acceptable frame-rates.
Bokishi Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 But turning the graphics on low makes the game into Morrowind. Current 3DMark
Darth Hades Posted June 28, 2006 Author Posted June 28, 2006 I'd get a new system and card if I had $$, but that is not really an option.
Bokishi Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 You might want to try the oldblivion mod. It makes the game playable on older cards I hear. Current 3DMark
BicycleOfDeath Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Defrag your harddrive and turn off unnecessary programs that you're running in the background. That includes AntiVirus software while you're playing. Stand Your Convictions and You Will Walk Alone.
alanschu Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 But turning the graphics on low makes the game into Morrowind. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I disagree. Oblivion at crap details is still much better than Morrowind on the highest settings. You have to remember Bokishi, you are a graphics whore.
Haitoku Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Screw this, I'll just bring it back. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Probably would have been a wise move even IF you could run the game well.
Darque Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Screw this, I'll just bring it back. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Probably would have been a wise move even IF you could run the game well. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Does the game suck? How does it compare to Morrowind?
Bokishi Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 It doesn't suck it's just that it's too big. @ Darth Hades: try this mod before you take it back http://videogames.yahoo.com/predownload?eid=453416 Current 3DMark
WinterSun Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 I preferred it to Morrowind myself. Faction storylines were better, the main quest was fairly interesting (especially the ending). Scaling was a pain sometimes but never a massive problem. master of my domain Pedicabo ego vos et irrumabo.
Darth Hades Posted June 28, 2006 Author Posted June 28, 2006 Its been returned, I picked up Kingdom Hearts 2 instead...at least I know that game will play nicely.
Judge Hades Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Okay, you tried to run a next gen game on a 2 generation old video card? HAHAHAHAHA! I have to question one's intelligence if a person does that. First off this game is built around Pixel Shader 2.0 while our video card can handle only 1.1. Man, I hope you aren't planning to get NWN 2 with that card. HAHAHAHAHA!
SteveThaiBinh Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 (edited) I just finished the game, or the main quest at least. I had lags quite a lot, and that was with a FX6600GT card. It wasn't bad for the most part, although living within a 10m-diameter pool of grass that moved with me was rather distracting for a while. This card isn't really up to running the game well, though, and I'm thinking of getting something better next month. chos echo Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 imagine star wars oblivion style you know the fact that you can kill every body lol

HAHAHAHAHA! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I never buy those games anyways, if it is not SW I usually don't buy it for PC...A trusted friend said it was good, so I decided to try it. You don't have to be a shmuck about it. Anyone with your style of critique on operating systems and cards must be a lonely person. Get out in the sun once and a while, maybe meet a real girl...its good for you. Edited June 29, 2006 by Darth Hades
