Llyranor Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 A general doesn't dance individual troops around. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
Gorth Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 (edited) Seeing as battles in real life are fought in "real time" I tend to disagree with his reasoning Battles in real life are usually fought as multiplayer engagements, not leaving it to the poor commanding officer to instruct each and every grunt in who to point his gun at Try pitting two chess players against each other for a game of real time chess Edited May 12, 2006 by Gorth “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. Cantousent Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 I'm not a big fan of RTS games. Even though I'd love to have a good fantasy battle game, I'm going to pass on this one. Let's hope we get an RPG eventually. Hurlshort Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 Why does everyone keep calling this an RTS? This isn't anything like a standard RTS. Was Myth an RTS? Is the combat aspect of Total War games an RTS? It really needs a different acronym.
Darque Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 People probably call it a RTS game because it's a strategy game that's played in "real time".... just a thought. "
Musopticon? Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 RTS is more like a swear word, than a correct moniker for a genre nowadays. I mean, what else besides commanding troops in real time, does Age of Empires 3 and Rome:Total War have in common? kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. It really needs a different acronym. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm re-quoting myself because Hades and Darque didn't really address my questions at all, they just tried to poke fun. I know what the acronym RTS stands for, but it's very general. Currently, the majority of games labeled RTS are clones of Command and Conquer (technically Dune) and Warcraft. This is not that type of RTS. So should it be given another genre? Does Myth and Total War deserve another genre?
