Baley Posted May 26, 2006 Author Posted May 26, 2006 I must admit, I laughed out loud the first time I heard the "ashtray" line.Damn macabre of me, if I do say so myself. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I posted the lyrics. But Stagger Lee is still a personal favourite. Nick Cave - Stagger Lee It was back in '32 when times were hard He had a Colt .45 and a deck of cards Stagger Lee He wore rat-drawn shoes and an old stetson hat Had a '28 Ford, had payments on that Stagger Lee His woman threw him out in the ice and snow And told him, "Never ever come back no more" Stagger Lee So he walked through the rain and he walked through the mud Till he came to a place called The Bucket Of Blood Stagger Lee He said "Mr Mother****er, you know who I am" The barkeeper said, "No, and I don't give a good goddamn" To Stagger Lee He said, "Well bartender, it's plain to see I'm that bad mother****er called Stagger Lee" Mr. Stagger Lee Barkeep said, "Yeah, I've heard your name down the way And I kick mother****ing asses like you every day" Mr Stagger Lee Well those were the last words that the barkeep said 'Cause Stag put four holes in his mother****ing head Just then in came a broad called Nellie Brown Was known to make more money than any bitch in town She struts across the bar, hitching up her skirt Over to Stagger Lee, she starts to flirt With Stagger Lee She saw the barkeep, said, "O God, he can't be dead!" Stag said, "Well, just count the holes in the mother****er's head" She said, "You ain't look like you scored in quite a time. Why not come to my pad? It won't cost you a dime" Mr. Stagger Lee "But there's something I have to say before you begin You'll have to be gone before my man Billy Dilly comes in, Mr. Stagger Lee" "I'll stay here till Billy comes in, till time comes to pass And furthermore I'll **** Billy in his mother****ing ass" Said Stagger Lee "I'm a bad mother****er, don't you know And I'll crawl over fifty good pussies just to get one fat boy's ass hole" Said Stagger Lee Just then Billy Dilly rolls in and he says, "You must be That bad mother****er called Stagger Lee" Stagger Lee "Yeah, I'm Stagger Lee and you better get down on your knees And suck my ****, because If you don't you're gonna be dead" Said Stagger Lee Billy dropped down and slobbered on his head And Stag filled him full of lead Oh yeah.

Darth Drabek Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 Skeletonwitch - Onward to Battle. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> WHOA! That is infinitely awesome! I went to college with those guys! How'd you hear about them? And how's the song? They were working on a CD when I knew them but having trouble 'cause they kept going through singers, I think. Amazing dual-guitar attack. (I hope I didn't mention them on here and you heard about them through some underground 'zine or something...) baby, take off your beret everyone's a critic and most people are DJs

Plano Skywalker Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 Nintendo metal? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> if you are referring to "Demons and Wizards", I agree, it is a hokey name in this day and age...would have been fine in 1970 but not now. it is, however, some of the best progressive power metal out there as it is a "super band" with 2 of biggest guns in the business.
Musopticon? Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 I should totally get a hobby or something. Here I am waiting a message from someone named Plano Skywalker and listening to a jazzy piece made by someone named Lou Gutman. Just some idle writing. And you should totally try bands like Angra or projects like Star One if you like progressive. Like, broaden your horizons before calling anything "the biggest". Nope, not patronising you, no offence ment. Dragonforce - Through fire and flames kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. Plano Skywalker Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 no offense taken....I do like progressive metal. it is one thing when a rock song shifts between slow/fast, electric/acoustic. but it has such a different effect when done with metal. anyway, thanks for the tip on those bands. (and "bigger" is not always "better").
Darth Drabek Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 I took classes with Scott, the lead guitarist for Skeletonwitch, and shot the breeze with him many a time at the local record shop. He worked there, and talked music all damn day, as you would expect. I partied with them a few times, not often though, as I couldn't keep up with their drinking - and I was no slouch back then myself. He plays a red and black Gibson SG. Left-handed. And they absolutely kill live. Encored with Iron Maiden's The Trooper at a show I saw. Only cover they did, but everybody remembered it. \mn/ baby, take off your beret everyone's a critic and most people are DJs
Daaave Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 (edited) *Wonders how much it would be to fly to the U.S to see them live* *Realises he's a college student with no money to do that no matter how cheap* :'( If you still speak to them make them tour England at some point. Please.
