Musopticon?
Ah, okay then, The Sex Pistols are massively overrated, a bunch of lazy dweebs who could barely play their instruments and mutter insipid political ideals do not equal good music. The Ramones were of course better. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, that's the first time I see someone type that. Congrats, you won the internets. kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. Walsingham
I'm finding all these references to alts pleasingly similar to Battlestar Galactica type paranoia about cylon infiltrators. Anyway, I'd say my favourite would have to Aerosmith. Before they got old and cranky. "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Baley
There are tones of Punk bands that can both play their instruments with fantastic technical and artistic proficiency and mutter insipid political ideals at the same time. The Sex Pistols didn't make good music. They were fashion dolls. That's their lasting impact on the world of punk rock. The Ramones, on the other hand, are good music. metadigital
Well, there is also a good argument that the punk movement had its zenith at the exact moment that Sid Vicious choked on his own vomit ... Baley
Talk about a nadir. Now this, this is a zenith: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frankenchrist Or maybe the massive anti nazi-punk squabbles, good times, good times. Well, now musically, there's only one possible Zenith:

the dude
throwing up and sticking pins in oneself = sex pistols political activism and critique = dead kennedys and bad brains societal critique and activism = the stooges and new york dolls then again, the sex pistols did almost get enough of a following to put england in a veritable state of anarchy, but then they had the ever-poppy "the clash" to make everyone happy again......in retrospect, it seemed like the sex pistols kinda ruined put the individualistic, nondestructive scene that the ramones, stooges, and new york dolls had going...meh my favorite rock band is probably uh...... the ramones Edited April 18, 2006 by the dude words are weightless here on earth because they're free
baby arm
The Velvet Underground, The Stooges, The Minutemen. Hellride is playing this weekend. It's Mike Watt (Minutemen, firehose), Stephen Perkins (Jane's Addiction, Porno For Pyros), and Peter DiStefano (Porno For Pyros) doing nothing but Stooges covers. The venue this time is a tacky strip joint. Gotta love it.

Blarghagh
So you're judging Metallica on a cover? Never judge a band by it's cover. Err. You know what I mean. Covers are never good because people are used to the old one. Besides, Thin Lizzy destroyed the song themselves first. Fenghuang
Just because they turned into crap when they stopped drinking doesn't mean that they weren't the best rock band ever at one point in time. Fenghuang
I don't quibble over genres. I see music as several different core styles with themes that branch off of them. RIP
Blarghagh
And rock isn't one of the core genres Metallica belongs to. If I wanted to quibble over genres I'd have included a paragraphs about it being trash metal and what that amounts to.
astr0creep
Favorite rock bands: AC/DC Pink Floyd (not really rock but for some reason they are classified as a rock band by everyone, probably because of Another Brick in the Wall and possibly Money). Aerosmith (when they were high and/or drunk. In the late 70s/early 80s) The Tragically Hip (Best Canadian band EVAR!) Led Zeppelin Iron Maiden ( ) Guns & Roses Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers ZZ Top The Darkness (I could do without the vocals though...) Supertramp Dire Straits Genesis Styx So many others... :"> Edited April 18, 2006 by astr0creep http://entertainmentandbeyond.blogspot.com/
