There are tones of Punk bands that can both play their instruments with fantastic technical and artistic proficiency and mutter insipid political ideals at the same time.

 

The Sex Pistols didn't make good music. They were fashion dolls. That's their lasting impact on the world of punk rock.

 

The Ramones, on the other hand, are good music.

political activism and critique = dead kennedys and bad brains

societal critique and activism = the stooges and new york dolls

 

then again, the sex pistols did almost get enough of a following to put england in a veritable state of anarchy, but then they had the ever-poppy "the clash" to make everyone happy again......in retrospect, it seemed like the sex pistols kinda ruined put the individualistic, nondestructive scene that the ramones, stooges, and new york dolls had going...meh

Hellride is playing this weekend. It's Mike Watt (Minutemen, firehose), Stephen Perkins (Jane's Addiction, Porno For Pyros), and Peter DiStefano (Porno For Pyros) doing nothing but Stooges covers. The venue this time is a tacky strip joint. Gotta love it.

Covers are never good because people are used to the old one.

I don't quibble over genres.

 

I see music as several different core styles with themes that branch off of them.

And rock isn't one of the core genres Metallica belongs to. If I wanted to quibble over genres I'd have included a paragraphs about it being trash metal and what that amounts to.

Thin Lizzy! were great and i have heard metallica's other stuff which were awful . can't remember any names of songs though
