metadigital Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 http://www.steampowered.com/Steam/Marketing/DODS_fw_notice It is still a silly name for a game, though. Who wants to play a game where you lose? They should have called it "Day of the Turning Point in the War", or "The Day that Mattered". ... alanschu Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Does DOD come free for those that bought gold pack, or collector's edition, or anything like that?
Llyranor Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Gold and Silver Steam edition, yes. Everything else including Collector's, no. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
Jumjalum Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 DoD: Source is actually a lot of fun, although it's way too fast for a WW2 game and the weapons need looked at (it's too easy to run around spraying bullets with the assault class, the US rifle is a lot harder to use than the Axis one). A few more maps, including a couple of the dynamic ones where the spawns move back and forward, and a bit more love and it could be a classic. We now bring you live footage from the World Championship Staring Final.
alanschu Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 I remember the original release.....apparently the Normany landings were all fought with sniper rifles!
metadigital Posted February 8, 2006 Author Posted February 8, 2006 But, the German tech was better than the allied stuff. Also, is there a SP narrative to play, or is it just MP? OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT
alanschu Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 It's typically been just MP in the past. I suspect it's a lot like CS:S and will just be MP as well. With respect to the rifles, the German MP44 was a very, very effective rifle.
metadigital Posted February 8, 2006 Author Posted February 8, 2006 I thought I read somewhere that there is a SP module to play ..? Maybe I might have a remote chance of not being completely and irrevocably correct ... " OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT
alanschu Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 I have not heard anything about it. Then again, I have not followed it's development really at all.
Llyranor Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 MP only. You lose. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
metadigital Posted February 8, 2006 Author Posted February 8, 2006 It's not a new thing for Source, it is part of the original game (if it exists at all). I found it quite bizarre when I read it, so I didn't download DoD to see. (My harddrive is currently full of other fun things to play.) Bokishi Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Steam's bandwidth is so screwed. Current 3DMark
Bokishi Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Lot's of people to DL'ing a free (limited-time-only) game? Current 3DMark
Arclam Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 DoD and DoD:Source are the only multiplayer shooters that I have ever played on a regular basis. Heck, with the exeption of NWN they are the only multiplayer games at all that I have played on a regular basis. DoD
alanschu Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Can't be any worse than the day Half-Life 2 was released.
Llyranor Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Hehe, I woke up at 3AM to play the game that day Took almost an hour to preload the final part before the game would launch (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
metadigital Posted February 8, 2006 Author Posted February 8, 2006 I remember the nightmare (the cipher took about an hour to decrypt all the game files). Since then I have re-installed HL2 after a complete hd rebuild in a few minutes (less than five, iirc): Steam is a revolutionary product. alanschu Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 I like the idea of steam. They just underestimated it for HL2 launch. I bought the collector's edition, and it was quite frustrating to wait upwards of an hour just for the game to unlock. Eventually it just timed out, said it would let me play on a provisional basis, and would ask for me to log in at a later time.
Llyranor Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 I love Steam, especially its support for more niche games such as Ragdoll Kungfu, Darwinia and Dangerous Waters. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
