February 2, 200619 yr Could you tell me more as to why you see this as a block Diamond? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I am just speculating, but It is harder to make acquisition of foreign company because you would have to get approval from foreign investment review board (or whatever equivalent they have in Norway) Norway government recently spoke against Microsoft dominance of the market Edited February 2, 200619 yr by Diamond
February 2, 200619 yr Yes I would say those are fair challenges for MS to consider such a purchase. I would also add the EU's general comfort with confrongting MS in regard to market exploitation would be another challenge as well. But I do not think these are in and of themselves stoppers. It would be interesting to know how much they have invested into IE 7 - but I suspect Opera would have been a more cost effective way of addressing market share loss. Some have it as high as 10-12% to Firefox globally and as high as 20% in Europe. And that is no small amount of global penetration for a 'non-corporate' offering. What will be even more interesting is the affect of the Google Pack and its inclusion of many stable applications that challenge MS old paradigm http://pack.google.com/. February 2, 200619 yr I believe IE dropped mac support, or is dropping it when the new browser comes out. It's just something I heard at work...where they are impure and use dirty macs. Edited February 2, 200619 yr by Hurlshot
February 2, 200619 yr Its the IE with tab browsing. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Indeed. Now they decide to join the other browsers with tabs. It took them how long to get with it? Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
February 3, 200619 yr Microsoft rules. Well except when it comes to browsers now, they are lagging behind in that. February 3, 200619 yr I don't know anyone who doesn't rely on a Microsoft product in some way or other. They are a cutthroat corporation, but they also lead the pack in most areas of software, and a few hardware pieces to boot. It's hard to hate them when they make my life easier.
