I still like this one personally. It also comes with a built in sound processor, it will eat up a few more processes from your CPU with built in but you save more money. This one is also AMD, compatible with SLI.

You might also want to consider SATA Hardrives, i find them easier to play with, and they are suppose to be a bit faster naturally. both motherboardes, yours and this one i see support SATA.

Even with a penny pinchers attitude, i think its best to get the BEST motherboard out there because its the last thing you ever want to upgrade. Your motherboard defines and limits your computers potential.

I found it! I found it!

About a year ago IGN did a series on building your own PC, it's obviously dated in terms of tech, but it's GOLD for actual assembling advice, IMO

Sweet, thanks. I'm going to need this.

But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

Ok, can someone tell me what the "fastest" AMD processor there is in terms of Ghz? Highest I see is about 2.4 or thereabouts, but with Intel you see upwards of 3.8 and such. What is the difference?

Eh. Motherboards are cheap.

Not as expensive as a processor or Graphic card, but still they range from about $90 bucks to $230. I would call that kinda pricey, yet I would still buy a cheaper CPU, or Graphic card to get the better MoBo. This way i can always upgrade to a better cpu or Graphic card.

THeir best is the "Amd 64bit X2" line.

I believe the best one available, at least widely, is this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819103544

Or if you step back .2 ghz you can get this one for $300 less:

The X2 is basically their processors made for high end 3D graphics.

I like it, but unless you have windows, don't forget the cost of the operating system.

Also, you have to figure in the cost of the case, unless your using an old one. Make sure the mother board fits the case.

Also, you need a power supply, 40-50 bucks.

Is that mother board 1 or 2 PCI-E slots. 1 if fine imo, but two is nice. Kinda like having extra USB slots, can't hurt. Just curious, mainly.

Also, buy me a computer too.

OS, case, and PS are accounted for ;).

It has just the one (other) PCIe slot.

Yeah, tell me about it. A similar system (as much as I could get) cost about 1000 dollars more.

Edit:

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ / 512KB Cache / 2000MHz FSB / Socket 939 / Venice Core / Processor with Fan

I lose about .2 GHz, but it has a faster bus speed.

This also pushes the prie to just over $1600

Ok...I'm going a different route, sort of, and getting a slightly less expensive video card combo:

  • AMD Athlon 64 3500+ / 512KB Cache / 2000MHz FSB / Socket 939 / Venice Core / Processor with Fan
  • Asus A8N 32-SLI-Deluxe NVIDIA Socket 939 ATX Motherboard / Audio / PCI Express / SLI / WiFi / Dual Gigabit LAN / S/PDIF / USB 2.0 / Serial ATA / Dual RAID
  • Dual Channel 2048MB PC3200 DDR 400MHz Memory (2 x 1024MB)
  • Two (2) eVGA GeForce 6800 GS 256MB PCI Express SLI Video Cards and an Ultra X-Finity 500 Watt SLI-Ready Power Supply
  • Seagate / 250GB / 7200 / 8MB / ATA-100 / EIDE / OEM / Hard Drive
  • Creative Labs SoundBlaster Live 24-Bit PCI Sound Card (Retail Box)
  • NEC 16x8x16x DVD+RW / 16x6x16x DVD-RW / 8x DVD+R DL / 6x DVD-R DL / 48x32x48x CD-RW / Black / Dual Layer / OEM DVD Burner with Software
  • Lite-On / 52x32x52x CD-RW / Black / CD Burner *
  • Ultra UV Wizard Black ATX Mid-Tower Case with UV Reactive Clear Side, Front USB and Firewire Ports
  • Ultra Commander 7-Channel Fan Controller Plus 3 Titanium Finish 80mm Fans *

* = should I actually get these items?

A little cheaper, but still plenty upgradable at $1530 (before rebates, etc).

Frankly, that sounds like overpriced garbage.

In other news, I hear Antec has pretty good fans, PSUs and cases.

I dunno, 3 of these? (not gonna fit in any case known to man)

Or just get a high-end Antec case and some extra fans for it if you want to.
