BicycleOfDeath Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 I'm glad I stopped playing it: http://www.rootkit.com/blog.php?newsid=358 ...The warden then uses the GetWindowTextA function to read the window text in the titlebar of every window. These are windows that are not in the WoW process, but any program running on your computer. Now a Big Deal... Stand Your Convictions and You Will Walk Alone.
Hurlshort Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 This is also the reason there are way less gold farmers and bot programs in WoW. I don't really care about the spyware they are using if it protects the game universe. It's not like they are going to screw over millions of customers. As for worries about Blizzard being hit by hackers to take adavantage of this, I'm guessing Blizzard has better tech people than most banks.
Musopticon? Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 It's a principle thing, or at least that's how I see it. You don't break customers privacy. kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. I had to fight against blood thirsty wolves and rabid penguins to get my food. Those who were too weak to survive were sent to Sweden. It has made me the man I am today. A man who craves furry hentai. So let us go and embrace the rustling smells of unseen worlds
Guest Fishboot Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 Doesn't this kind of stuff not work if you're using Windows in user mode, rather than admin mode? I know that Win XP and Win2K are a pain in the butt to use switching between user and admin mode, though. What bugs me is that hacking around this kind of stuff will happen a few weeks after they put it in, but Blizzard will never take it out even after it's been compromised. So you'll have this slow buildup of progressively invasive, mostly ineffective spyware.
Hurlshort Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 I just re-read the article. I'm not going to try an penetrate the End User Legal Agreement, but I'm pretty sure Blazzard has something in there to cover this. Again, I don't care. Why do you have your financial info. up while you're playing WoW? When I'm on WoW I don't run anything else. This is their tactic to keep cheaters out. It's worth it to me. It's not like they run the Warden all the time, only when I'm on WoW, so no one knows what porn sites I visit.

Lord Tingeling Posted October 12, 2005 Posted October 12, 2005 I'm gonna go to the grocery store for some World of Bananacraft now, methinks. "McDonald's taste damn good. I'd rtahe reat their wonderful food then the poisonous junk you server in your house that's for sure. What's funny is I'm not fat. In fact, I'm skinny. Though I am as healthy as cna be. Outside of being very ugly, and the common cold once in the blue moon I simply don't get sick." - Volourn, Slayer of Yrkoon!
