I find even most computer buffs don't really know the difference between various socket types or chipsets. That is why you ask advice from uber-geeks or just go to websites and read up on the differences.

Yes, that is definently not a good motherboard. I wouldnt have it anywhere near my computer.

Foxconn makes all the motherboards for HP, as well as the HP laptops. They also make most of the components on HP servers. All get rock solid reviews.

 

That mobo I got is likely bad, but I got a great package with the mobo. It has the biggest manual I've ever seen for a mobo, a floppy disk with RAID drivers, tons of connectors, and the most feature rich BIOS I have ever seen.

 

There is something to be said for that.

 

It is also a very inexpensive mobo that offers firewire, and the NForce 4 Ultra chipset which rocks all around. It is my favorite chipset aside from SLI.

Well, that's because of the silos of info specialities ...

 

I pick up a specific expert guide (hardcopy or internet) before making a decision about anything, even if I am "expert" in the area, sometimes there is news or even regression errors revealed, and it doesn't hurt to have your thoughts double checked.

 

Personally, I know enough to talk knowledgeably about the various componentry, but ratings and so forth I don't pretend to know. The jargon seems to be ludicrously convoluted: I remember the original SLI, not to mention the difference between a 486sx and a 486dx!

No, it came with a floppy disk with RAID drivers. Most people expect you to download RAID drivers. I love that Windows XP even with Service Pack 2 does not have RAID drivers built in.
