Archmonarch
Gamespot Article Basically, a lawyer who jointly led crusade against GTA: SA has declared the Sims 2 a greater transgressor because it is possible to remove the blur over nude sims through a cheat code. According to him, graphic details (including accurately rendered genitalia, breasts, and pubic hair) are displayed through use of this code, causing comparisons between Sims 2 and porn. Even more alarmingly, he says that because the code applies to all sims (including children), it is a tool for pedophiles to plan attacks. As a result, he seeks to recall all copies of the game and ban any further sales. Bastards. And I find it kind of funny I find it kind of sad The dreams in which I'm dying Are the best I've ever had

metadigital
I've just posted an except from a recent New Scientist article in another thread, which I shall copy, below. Talikng Point Are the kids all right after all? You're hanging around your homies at the crossroads when you spot a plain-clothes nark. Do you: (a) pull your baseball cap down over your eyes and your hoodie up over it, and try to mooch off down an alley, or (b) hijack that suburban car waiting at the lights with a "Baby on Board" sign to make a rubber-burning getaway? metadigital
Call me a cynic, but I think the fact that this pond-scum-dweller is targeting The Sims 2 would have more to do with the realtive success of the game title (i.e. the biggest in history) than any contrived notion of exploitation. These so called activisit lawyers who say they're out for the public's well being are just latching on to popular or known titles to run their crusade. If Sims 2 was barely heard of or had relatively little success, they'd not even pay attention to it. That's why I hate lawyers who insist they are doing things for the public's sake. The game to which I refer is called 'Shock and Awe in Iraq', in which so far between 25,000 and 100,000 people have been killed, the majority of whom are civilians. It has come to my attention that the targets in this game, far from being the assemblage of pixels usually to be found in such entertainment, may in fact be real people dying very real deaths. In addition to the obvious harm done to the people of Iraq, it seems likely that there will be a significant and damaging impact upon children in the US and UK. Our children are being raised in a climate in which our leaders declare such violence to be acceptable and even virtuous. I urge you to do everything possible to ensure that this game ends immediately, and those responsible are brought to account for their crimes. Yours sincerely Steve I look forward eagerly to his reply, and shall post it should it come. "An electric puddle is not what I need right now." alanschu
ROFL. I sent him an e-mail indicating that I was a retailer and thanked him for the hype because GTA was flying off the shelves. His reply was: "Wrong. nobody is selling it. it is off all store shelves. duh" To which I replied: "I live in Canada" (the one true thing) At which point he replied: "That's too bad." Could we get him for being prejudiced against Canadians? I even made him a contact so I wouldn't miss any of his replies LOL EDIT: My most recent e-mail however, was a serious one, asking why go for video games when there is plenty of sex in the movies, as well as internet sites that provide porn movies for free, with no way to kid from downloading it. SteveThaiBinh
His reply was: tell your congressman. duh Here is mine: Dear Mr. Thompson Thank you for your reply. I suppose you didn't notice the .uk portion of my email address; a more appropriate suggestion would have been 'Tell your Member of Parliament'. One could equally argue that concerns over violence in video games should be addressed to members of parliament or congressman rather than to a lawyer such as yourself. The substantial point is leaders and governments are pronouncing violence and violent acts in Iraq to be lawful and justified; surely this is more likely to be a cause of violent behaviour in our children than video games. As you are clearly concerned that children should not be given the message that violent acts are acceptable, I hope you will direct your efforts to ensuring that your own government follows a policy which reflects your concerns. Yours sincerely Steve I honestly didn't know how to respond to 'duh'. As far as I'm concerned, it's not a word that someone who wishes to be taken seriously would use in formal correspondence. Dat's gotta f00k some kid up for shurez0rs! EDIT: He used "duh" in his reply to me too. I almost wonder if it's just a jobber typing in one-liners since I doubt he has time to go through everyone's email. Of course he does seem like the type that has zippo for a life. To be "fair" I suppose, he probably does get a ton of junk in his email from tons of people telling him to fuxx0r off and whatnot.
